Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Does it have to be a GTi or just a 9N with trip computer?

Personally, I'd like to know of any 9N3 GTi's being wrecked anywhere as I'd like to upgrade my brakes one day.

    • Installed Gav's spare ECU with CC phase 1. No dramas with the ECU swap itself, PITA getting the casing open.

Gav, no codes, feels fine, will any timing I added through Lemmiwinks be removed with the ECU swap?

Boost feels different, very early days. Need to let it adapt. In the meantime my ECU is off to Gav for a Stage 2 flash with SAI junk deleted. Gav you mentioned the N249 and N112 systems, do you code those out as well? Have not had the Vac system for a while.

Winter with CC and good tyres, should be fun.

      • Just the SAI Ben, the others can be successfully prevented with the resistors. Yeah, the loaner will be the straight map, your addition timing is saved in the ECU. The Phase 1 is not written to have timing added, although feel free to play with it if you like. Be good if you can remember to set it back to zero offset when you take it back out.

Got the hubs from a wrecker through Philip in EliteEuro who works on my car

              • Do you know if the hubs are off a Polo or MkIV Golf GTi (or a MkIII VR6)?

Was it these that you needed to fit the other brake parts?

My indicator stalk has broken - the switch won't return after turning the wheel back (after taking a corner), and the whole thing is driving me mental.

Also if anyone's got access to ELSA to tell me the exact part number, that would be great. I am pretty sure it's 6Q0 953 503 CQ, but not certain. It may be BM going off auto-parts.spb.ru but I don't know how reliable that is.

Basically just looking for the cheapest way to get that damn indicator stalk assembly replaced.
                      How about this?

                      • yes they are, but bear in mind the wheel bearings could be wearing out

I bought a pair of wheel bearings just in case
but turned out the bearings from the hubs are alright

so the new bearings are sitting in the garage now
let me know if you need a new pair

                        • Notice you're running a provent catch system.

How do you find it (as in how much are you catching)?

                          • Hard to tell yet

It's only being on the car for almost 2 tanks of oil
The filter element is not even fully soaked yet

But I can see the pipes(transparent pipe:p) from the crank case are quite oily, and nothing in the pipes going to the intake(as far as I can see)

Will post up when I have some results

                            • Fitted my new wheels. Dad (GRP on here) bought them off of Stuwey about a month ago, but he had painted them just didn't suit me, so i painted them black.

I'm really happy with how they look on the car.

Does he let you play in the 63? Always wanted a go in one...

The unfortuate thing is that the nicer wheels highlights the wheel-arch gap. You know whats next...
