Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Installed Whiteline rear sway bar yesterday as well as NGK BKR7E plugs. The plugs that I pulled out looked to be original at 95000.
Today I half installed my boost guage. I am getting to old to crawl under dashboards. Just need to run vacuum hose to the engine and plug in. Installing intercooler next weekend. The welder didn't weld the Map flange for this weekend. Turbo kkit is being delivered next week.

                • Seat Cooler rocked up.

Much lighter than I'd expected. Given I'd been advised by the supplier they'd been selling a few and it would take a few days for the new stock. To have it 8 days after order (including weekends) is great service.

Brackets, bolts, its all here. Just need to get the pipes sorted.

If you are considering the Seat intercooler, I'd highly recommend Darkside Developments for great service / communications, shipping and most importantly, price.

                  • Same dyno, same conditions? Are you running a downpipe?

                    Which tune?

To be fair, if you made much more than a handful of kw's I would be surprised. The ECU will be requesting the same boost, so you aren't going to get much extra.

                      Thanks for the reply Gav

Its a DNA tune. Had a run on a different dyno (HPF) with just the tune. Got 114.8

I had a downpipe, and 200cell cat fitted. Then pulled 113.1 on the dyno at RTR.

Im not disappointed as they said the car performed really well on the dyno in regards to AFR and the power line etc, which is good. Im just a bit confused that the result is pretty much the same??

Contemplating just pulling my finger out and sorting out an FMIC and getting the cat back changed to 2.5"... Been a bit lazy lol

Just realized I quoted "exhaust and intake upgrade" my bad. Should have said downpipe, cat, and intake upgrade.

                      • As your AFR's are good, I'd be checking your boost and timing through VCDS.

Have you talked to the guy who tuned your car? They might look at it for you.

                        • Can't really compare results from different dyno's, even pulls on the same day can vary. For me, the data from VCDS tells nearly as much as any dyno does.

If you can log it, I am sure John would look at the logs for you. There may be more power to be had. I don't know if DNA supports the use of custom settings, it can make basic map settings on ME7 ECUs. This is what I use for Phase 2 tunes on the Polo's. In conjunction with the logs, you can add timing to the map without a full re-flash.

Unitronics have the utility on their website to download. You can use it with a lead, dead easy.

Search lemmiwinks too for some good reading.

                            • Blacked out the mirrors, roof. Not sure of I like the black roof yet or not...?

Finally but the bullet and bought an intercooler for it. Forge/Seat jobbie. Not the cheapest/best/OMG/scene points but it's a whole lot better than the side mount it'll be replacing.

Four new driving lights on their way, too...

                              • Washed and detailed over the weekend, the got the 120k service today... It is running a lot better after the service. I am getting new strut top bearing fitted tomorrow... I'm not liking how it sounds like a Sydney cab at the moment!! Should be good for the big drive over to the Barossa Valley on Wednesday... Would love to be buying a new intercooler, however a driving holiday in Tasmania at the end of the year has the priority, however, if anyone is willing to buy an intercooler for me, that would be great!!
