Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Can you list your mods? They're not the reason you're so fast but they sure don't hurt (though I can't see myself losing 8 seconds with your mods ).
    -GIAC tune
    -3" dump pipe/50 cell cat/Milltek catback
    -Forge FMIC
    -K&N Apollo Intake (for giggles)
    -Forge TIP
    -APR R1
    -Upgraded dogbone bush
    -KW V1 coilovers
    -Cupra Front LCA Bushes
    -Whiteline RSB
-Forge front & rear strut braces
-Ultra Racing front and rear underbody braces
-A1RM pads on stock rotors/Remsa pads & DBA slotted rotors (the Remsa pads on the DBA slotted had more initial bite and felt more positive IMO but my PB was set on the A1RMs)
    -HEL braided lines
-OZ Racing 16x7.5 +35 (also have some BBS LMs in the works)
    -Federal RSR 205/45/16
-Forge short shifter and solid shifter bushings

    I think that's it haha

That's a hellava list Do you have any issues with the underbody bracing hitting speedbumps or anything like that?

      Cheers!

Nah not really, it probably only sits an extra 2-3cm down from the subframe so it's not too bad. Saying that I drive pretty slow over speedbumps haha...

Warning - the fitment with the Ultra Racing stuff isn't 100% spot on (on the front brace I had to drill out the bolt holes as they were two small and grind a few mm off the mounting points to get it to sit correctly, the rear required some rater large washers to get it to sit flush as the holes are massive!)

But now I can three wheel everywhere due to the added stiffness (on the track, going up driveways )

Your engine mod list is depressingly small

I may look into the underbody braces as my mechanic reckons that is the area where our cars need reinforcement before any strut bracings. Do you think I could remove it easily for daily driving and just bolt it on for tracking? (Looks likely but I may have missed something....)

              • Dropped her off for the major service (sitting at 108kms now).

Hoping for a bit more zest once she's back.

Well I pre-purchased some of the parts (timing belt, roller, relay roller) so I've saved some coin that way.

All in all it should only be half a days labour and water pump, plugs, liquids and filters.

Neat. Did you get your UR parts direct from the distributor or from one of the Victorian dealers? Or did you import them from Malaysia?

So was there any particular reason you didn't get the middle brace as well? I'm wondering whether to do the whole lot (but the middle one could be a total PITA to install/remove without a hoist/pit)
