Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Downpipe finally gave way and broke clean off the flange...car now sounds literally like a fighter jet and smells like one too...

Can anyone recommend some good exhaust shops in Melbourne? Was just thinking of getting it rewelded while I wait for my new DP to come in...anyone tried Daalder in Dandenong?

          • I have found one side-affect though! Getting rid of the smile is near impossible! Just thinking of the sound and the feel of the turbo coming on boost makes me feel all funny!

            Thanks Gavin

Good grief, you've had a bad run since the last track day
Ask hazrd who made his down pipe - if they can make one, they should also be able to fix one.

What down pipe will you be getting to replace the current one?

What's your thoughts on enlargening it?? Or don't know the difference with/without? I was happy with the before and after change with the PD160. Not sure if removing that lip would add much, would be hesitant to modify given that it would change the pressure/vacuum conditions of the air box.

                        • I think its just a restriction. I don't know how detailed the science of the airbox would get after ensuring sufficient flow, cold air, low restriction and low turbulence.

The flap is likely there to deflect stones and junk. Anything getting into the intake pipe would need to get through the air filter, then the MAF screens before doing any damage, so I think from that angle, you're safe.

                          • installed HEL brake lines today. specific kit for polo mk4 1.8t. everything fits except i had to use the stock banjo bolts as the ones supplied by HEL won't fit (different thread pitch). the rear ones are direct swap but the working space under the fuel tank is quite small, especially on the right side.

shorter than stock but it will fit, no worries.

banjo fitting with stock banjo bolt.

the other end. no problems here except the hole on the mounting had to be enlarged to cater HEL's larger fitting.

                            another shot.

                              • Nice, I have had a set sitting here for ages and haven't put them in

Do you have a pic of the back ones on the car, my car looks like the fitting is crimped onto a hard line.
