Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Got my XCarlink interface finally working

Apparently late build RCD200s need a different chip in the interface. So the folks at XCarlink in the UK sent me a new chip. Pulled the interface apart this morning, swapped the chips and bingo I've got it all working

          • So I've just picked up the car from the mechanics who did a 45K service. There was a few things that I also asked him to do.

            1) See if he could bring the exhaust down a bit as one of the exhaust tip is melting a small section of the plastic.
            2) Install the Hels brake lines that I ordered from the UK

When I picked up the car I had a yarn to him. He told me that the ball on my right drop link exploded and the left drop link snapped. And he couldn't install the brake lines because the nuts were too big and would not mate with the existing line. He could've installed them but he would have to tighten them using zip ties which he refused to do, he doesn't do dodgy. He's an awesome mechanic, it exactly the stuff that I want to hear. So anyways since I need new drop links I thought that I'd order the front sway bars as well. So I've just ordered both from Whiteline. Now I just need to source new brake lines. Any recommendations other than Hel?

I hear some good things on Vortex about these guys! It will be good to have another option for the polo.

He said the nuts were too big and that the existing lines didn't fit correct into them. I did mention to him that some of the guys here have installed them with no issues. Either Hel have given me the incorrect one or they've changed on my current model? He did mention that he's installed a few braided lines and these just weren't right.

To do the job right you have to open up the holes in the line mounts so the pipes sit back where they should be and the OEM clips fit back on, front are a bit of a pain but very doable, rears the pipe mount brackets come off the car and you can open up the holes in a vice no worries, then like before use the existing OEM securing clips, absolutely no cable ties reqd

                        Cheers

Well done Brian! Polos were out in force! Guy Harding was piloting the APR Polo GtI despite the Natsoft Results saying Golf R.

                              I managed 1:13.3620. I will get 12s next time.
