  • The bottom end is now away for balancing and assembly.

I ported the FT wastegate and yesterday found that the sleeve the Wastegate pivot runs through wasn't secure in the exhaust housing. I am wondering if the actuator might have been jamming the wastgate and causing some funny boost spike that I was seeing?

I'll be getting that welded into place shortly, so it doesn't do it again.

Also, the other day while having a tidy up I found a set of brake caliper stiffeners that had been AWOL for ab0out 3 years. So I fitted them just now as well.

    • Are you running the forge actuator?

I hadn't been mate. I know what you're thinking but it ran fine on Lito's MK4 so I am pretty sure the actuator is ok. The FT isn't going back on TBH, hoping to have a BB like Anthony's very soon. I do have a Forge in the garage for the BB turbo.

What's the go with yours? Finished soon?

Just waiting for Seb to finish it. About one or two days left.
Waiting on the fabricator to finish a couple of brackets then it should be ready for logging.
He has given me an older S3 to run around in.

Cool. Love my S3, new front tyres yesterday and an alignment. It's a different car. Hope it'd done for the weekend then!!

Such a good tool. Cheaper on ebay but couldn't get a shipping price off the Yankees. Pete, Bullet Fast said he could make one pretty easy.

And while I'm thinking about it... By all means try and weld it, but after the effort you're putting into the porting I'd suggest rebuilding the stupid actuator arm. Ideal kinematics aside the FT arm is a piece of ****. Personally I'd ask Doug to volunteer the housing alloy type and pick a metal with similar thermal expansion rate. Over bore the hole, sleeve and adjustable ream to suit the shaft aiming for perfect fit at operating temperature. New arm with better kinematics, better bush and rotating 'foot'?? design. And flapper too... It sounds involved but really not. Makes me angry that the turbo is functioning so well on shoddy parts, grrrr! Gav, you should test the forge for stroke, work out the dimensions and design a new arm to suit the forge but open the waste gate more. An actuator bracket that allows the turbo to be removed without pulling the turbo might be nice too! The housing casting is crap but so is the OEM...

Goddamit I just can't turn off, I need to drink more.

Gonna just get the chuffing thing welded Pete. It's not going back on the car anyway, as I will just sit back and wait on the BB turbo.

It would be nice to work on all that stuff, I'll send it down to you, if you have too much time on your hands

                            • Trip to the Torque Team.

                              4 days later.

.... Built bottom end, balanced crank, rods, pistons, clutch. Maybe it'll negate some of the buzz from the poly dog bone?? Or not

Please don't hold your breath over the weekend though everyone, wife's birthday tomorrow and I am in work too!!
