  • Sad to see your car off the road again Gavin.
Was looking at this build to be like our version of Dougs' Frankenturbo TT, but better.
I am sure its going to go harder than ever. Looking forward to see what you can make the new turbo do.

I have, since cutting open the hockey puck to check inside. Not worth buying a new one. I got one for our A4 wagen and it was $40. I have other stuff I can put that money to this week.

Me too mate. I'd love to know what failed though, so I can avoid it happening again. I wonder if that bearing took a hammering when the actuator pipe came off and the boost was nuts?

At least I have something to keep me busy on the 5 days I get off this month.....

Now I have it opened up, I am pretty sure I haven't swapped the pumps inadvertently. One is all brown and nasty looking. The other is clean. The sump I lent to Lito has a brown tide mark around it the same as the fitted pump.

So still no solid explanation, the pick up is spotless. Doesn't look like any crap made it into the head. A fully charged maglite doesn't make the pools of oil sparkle.

Last 2 things playing on my mind, the filter mount and the oil filter. A respectable filter from Imparts by Mahle. The filter mount is from the original motor, not sure if that could restrict flow? What do you think Jimmy?

That was ok, same on both the pumps I have at home. I have't opened up the brand new one though. Got another engine, pulling it out at KMJ in the morning.

Nice work, that the 'secret' agu? I'm free all weekend if you want a hand. I've still got your pallet but its seen better days... Want me to try and 'source' another one? Dan murphies always has a couple lying around

                • Hmm should have had signs though a light flicker perhaps. Have to ask you haven't gave it a caning cold?? or over revved it at all, possibly stretched the rod bolts, if they get stretched the bearing can spin man, pump issues should have been making an appearance imo, a flicker or noises not. Cant see the filter or the filter head mate, I would expect the top end to be noisy and again a light or something, I think all the dramas have been happening at the crank. What a ball ache. Say hi to Rob from me, known him for donkeys years.

Missed this post Jimmy so didn't say hi to Rob. He was very helpful and didn't mind Jesse and I ****ting up his yard and me bleeding all over the place.

Not the secret AGU Lito but I got you a little something that you have needed for a while.

Never seen a light come on Jimmy, most mornings going to work I don't beat it before getting to the highway and the water is at 90 by then.

No noises or anything, just a faint tap to start with and inside of a couple of km it was too nasty to carry on. This will be a clinical build this time.

Rod bolts are ARP so better not have stretched!!

You can't "over rev" really on the way up and I defo didn't do it down changing.

It did stall on me one morning recently, not sure which though. Was on the way to work at the highway. I wonder if that was the first hint of a seize?

Water under the bridge now, onward and upward.

For interest pictures of good and bad oil pumps.

                    • As anything that stands still in my garage gets modified, a busted engine is no excuse....

                          It's from China.

A copy of a Cup one, I have just plasti-dipped it in black. I'll be fitting it with sikaflex and hoping I don't have to take it off. The brake light is off a standard no spoiler 9N and I swapped in the LEDs from the GTI.

Anthony has another one if you are interested send him a PM.

Hope it works out now then.
