Doesnt sound like mine did does it? If the rod or main journals end up cactus ill help pay for a new crank seeing as I have your spare
Lets see how it turns out first mate. Fingers crossed I didn't go so far as to do the big ends. Most of the rattling at idle was in the head from the chain tensioner my guess.
I gave Carlos my gauges mate and it was reading fine apparently, compared to dash gauge if that's what was meant to be relayed?? Maybe I picked him up wrong, I gave him the specs and it was good apparently, I heard his engine and to be fair without a gauge the trained ear would give it green light. Maybe in error you have put the wrong pump in mate?? did you mark em? And not being the orig motor that's a worry coz I could see it happening to the Orig one but another, hmm they don't fail that much, would be real bad luck 2 in a row.
Good luck mate,
Jmac
Mine was church mouse quiet Jimmy. I can't believe it quit, dribbling through traffic when I was giving it big licks around Lakeside on Saturday and did another couple of hundred km to work and stuff before yesterday.
There is a chance I used the wrong pump but that's slim, they weren't marked. I have a new one which was going in at the next oil change. In a few 1000 km.
When you wound it up the pressure went up to 80 but the rest of the time it was pretty much 10PSI per 1000 revs, which would be a little low from todays research. Which says chuck the oil cooler and one even said bin the filter mount.
The turbo was pretty loud for the first start of the day but I got used to not revving it until the water temp got up and the oil thinned out.
I think I'll see how much metal is in the sump and I'll lift the cam tensioner too. There's a bit of gauze under there if I remember right.
Do you reckon it could be flushed backwards from there? degreaser and an airline maybe?
I can barely move the oil pump at all and #4 has spun.
Weakening AUD not such a good thing right now.
That's devastating mate, if the engine has to come out may as well shave the bay and wire tuck right. My offer on the crank still stands mate and if you need a set of hands I'm keen as to help, already got the practice lol
So Gav you recon it's just a simple failure or it just doesn't like the extra go
Not sure how I can work out which went first? I am thinking low oil pressure did for the bearing but has something gone higher up in the motor to cause that?
Tight clearance on that big end when I built it up. No damage on the crank when the rods went in, new standard bearings. No damage on the ones that came out.
Plenty of metal in the sump but that looks like bearing material and isn't magnetic.
The oil pump was really tight to turn compared to another I had here and the new one I was going to fit at the next oil change.
If your crystal ball is working, I'd love to know what it says?
No reason why the power should have caused the failure.

Thanks mate. I'll let you know how I go. Engine will be coming out at some point.
Not all bad, I checked the FT which I thought was howling like a 6 year old (pulled that from FTs site) but it looks like the culprit for that was the PCV on the TIP. I am assuming it should only flow in one direction.
I'll have to check another to be sure.
Early days, but I think I have another engine located.
Spent a bit of time messing with my de-spoilered hatch. Swapping the LEDs from the spoiler brake light into the std brake light. Just fired some paint onto another spoiler that arrived on tuesday.
Yeah i guess it's just one of those things, really sucks Gav that was/is a cool machine, hope you get it sorted.
Thanks, I'll be back
Billet turbo coming at the end of the month. So prolly fit it all together, rather than refit the motor and then take the turbo off again. Will be better than ever!!

So does that mean a shaved engine bay also.
Heaps of pics if it does, heaps of turbo pics anyway if your not
Not from an iPhone.

Have you thought of doing complete PCV, EVAP etc. delete?
