Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    HI ,
thank you for your input as they could not resolve my braking issue nearly close to a year.I have make an appointment for another technician to view the problem end of month.Today,i have experience the sinking feeling of the brake pedal sinking way down more slowly downwards while gears at neutral.Hope thats not common.right?
Anyhow ,Great to know the problem has surface atlast and hopefully they can isolate to perhaps the brake booster, air in the system or a leak in the master cylinder. The bleeding was done the first instance and followed by taking the shine off the disc another time. Many rounds of pumping the brake pedals to get the readings and fowarded the report.Inshort its still unresolved .The only good thing so far after 400km usage,my oil is still alright after replacement of crankshaft ventilation Hose.cheers tay

Your braking woes seem to be more than a possible Brake booster sensor , however if your brake booster sensor has not been replaced i would suggest this may be tied in to your issues , even possibly complicating them .

Good luck getting it resolved .

So, the japs can't always built a problem free engine.

Or the twin turbo v8 diesels in the 200 series land cruisers that would drink oil so quickly that within 5000 cruising kms an engine drank its entire 11l of oil and then seized after being shut down.....

Or toyotas single turbo v8 diesel in the 70 series cruisers for that matter...

              • Just dropped my car off to get it's 3rd set of clutches installed and mentioned that since the Breather Pipe was installed a month ago (and driven exactly 2,000kms) that the oil consumption hasn't settled down and it's still 0.5l per 1,000kms.

I was then told to REFER TO MY MANUAL ABOUT OIL CONSUMPTION.

So they acknolodged I had high oil consumption and fitted the 'fix' and it hasn't changed at all and now I have to refer to my user manual.

The story better have changed when I pick it up tomorrow. <Sigh>

The point is not to say Japanese engines are superior. The point is that this is totally unacceptable, and we should not have to put up with it.

I dont know about Owners Manual in Australia but mine here in Europe says 1LT per 2000km up to the first 5000km and then should be less so even if that was the case it is using way too much.

                      • This is what is said word for word out of the Australian manual.
"Depending on how you drive and the conditions in which the car is used, oil consumption can be up to 1 litre/2000 km and is likely to be higher for the first 5000 km for new vehicles"

                        • What oil temps are you guys getting on the freeway?
Never owned a turbo car befor and am quite surprised how hot the oil gets.
Does the car have an oil cooler?

Depending in the day, at the minute I'm averaging exactly 100, up to 104 through the mooroduc roundabouts though...

I get the same - 104 is the hottest I've seen.
