Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Can't be. As Lucas said, black is fuel, blue/grey is oil.
All petrol cars will blow black smoke upon sudden acceleration due to the changes in mixture in the cylinders, especially if you don't give the car the berries very often because you will also be pushing extra combustion by-products out the exhaust.
Kawabanga, even euro 6 engines will spit black fuel smoke if they get driven the way most Australian cars do, we just don't have to opportunity to really open a car out without the prospect of going to jail. Remember how Lewis Hamilton got called before the courts here after doing a burnout at the Grand Prix 2 or 3 years ago? Our country is so ridiculous that when the WRC used to come here, one year the police pulled over the rally cars and issued them with "un-roadworthy" declarations because they had to use a public road to get to the next stage.
Our country sucks when it comes to the roads and road logic.sigpic

Getting my first service on Friday and switching to Liqui Moly (the service guy banged on about make sure it Full Fill oil and not Top up Oil - WTF) so will see how that goes.
If I don't see an improvement - time to order the A250 SportPolo GTI - 5 door - Candy White, Xenons, Comfort Package, Audio Upgrade, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors and Tint

Our country sucks when it comes to the roads and road logic.
Otherwise, here in Italy road rules are only "suggestions", so we have much possibilities to run, but believe me, I'd prefer to live in Australia instead that in the decadent Italy...
Anyway, one puff of smoke after low reving is normal, not a constant black smoke every time...

Damn it....
It looks like my MY12.5 GTi is one of the heavy drinkers.
After 1000km I filled up 1L engine oil to get it back to full. Now I am on 1600km and the oil is lower than 1/2 way the dip stick.
Its time to book in a free top up and a fix of my actuator.....

MY 12.5 Polo mostly driven in the country - approx 100km runs daily with 300m altitude up and down each way. First oil top up of 500ml at 8000 km. I drive pretty much all the time in auto DSG. I think I'm one of the lucky ones but have been told that it's city stop-start driving that causes most of the oil problems.

A bit of an interesting find on my part, I checked for blow by at the lowest physical point of the intake tract last week.
I now understand why they have issued the fix for a new breather pipe because the amount of blow by in the intake on my car is phenomenal! Although, I believe a proper catch can with an oil return would have been a far, far better solution than just a pipe change.
I have also now heard of another oil-burning GTI with 3 perfectly good cylinders and pistons, number 3 piston however was not so good. This was the one clearly burning the oil. Why? A missing piston ring.
Seems like VW have employed the GM LS1 V8 engine builders from Mexico.sigpic

Interesting on the blow by find, that means its better to change the pipe to the new one even when we do not have an oil problem? Nobody can point out the differences between the old and new pipe till now.
Could you share some photos of the oil residue on your lower intake tract? Thanks a million Gav

Mine is fine (1 liter in 10.000Kms), but I've changed the pipe anyway.
As I already said, I found some improvements:
Look at this OLD pic: the big intake pipe [B] was always oil-wet, since I mounted the oil pipe is perfectly dry...
This is a pipe comparison, just a little difference on the colour of a valve:
