No that it helps any of you guys but I'm up in Sydney seeing my cousin who has a Subaru XV and even she said she has major oil consumption issues. (About 1L/1000km)
She has asked the dealer what the next move is but the dealer said that its currently effecting all 2012 XV's and they are investigating the problem. In the mean time they can get free oil top ups. She isn't particularly happy as she lives in Singleton NSW and the only Subaru dealer is in Metford 50km away, so when the oil light comes in she can barely make it to get it topped up.

My usage so far:
Sept 14 2012 - Picked up brand new car.
Nov 9 2012 - ~3500km / first top up (was half way on the dipstick)
Dec 20 2012 - ~7000km - currently 2/3 marked on the dipstick
zzz at least its improved a tiny bit over time I guess...Last edited by Veeduby; 20-12-2012, 01:44 PM.MY12.5 Polo GTI - Pearl Black - Sunroof - Alcantara

Just order VW part #03C 103 474 AD, cost $165, it's plug & play. Your time is worth much more than this after you've gone through the mill argueing & debating how much oil you should/shouldn't use.
I was told 1L/1000km is acceptable oil usage by Austral VW in Brisbane. That means 15l consumption annually. 5l of 5W30 costs $75 min. So based on this consumption rate (which is totally unacceptable, but OK by VW) you are in front in less than a year. That way (replacement) VW has no excuse for consumption if it remains as they have no other solution.......
I reckon it's an inadequate oil sparation issue. The one in the timing cover meant to do it is too small. There is an engineering issue, routing in an external separator is my next solution.Last edited by fontana302; 20-12-2012, 09:11 PM.

Tolerance for VW is 1 liter every 2.000 Kms, as stated in the user manual.
If you have an higher consumption you must have the breather pipe for free and in the meantime oil top up for free...
If the consumption won't be better also after the pipe change, you can ask for a new engine and in the meantime top ups are again for free...

My consumption wasn't super excessive (as some on here) but I think that now some dealers know all the issues and rather than fighting customers, they're just replacing stuff. I can't stress how finding a 'good' dealer helps the process........Polo GTI - 5 door - Candy White, Xenons, Comfort Package, Audio Upgrade, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors and Tint

A savvy dealer will give you very little trouble, as an investment, in the hopes you will choose their service department again in the future.2011 Polo GTI | Black | 5 doors | Comfort pack | Audio pack | 9w7 Bluetooth | Xenons - a Return to VW!

Replace is simply reverse order.
It also needs the clip attached to its end (at least in my cupra that was the deal).
Let me ask something those that have fitted the pipe themselves. There was a small rubber plug at the end of the middle pipe (the one that ens up just before the throttle body). Did you have to remove this in order to attach the clip that secures the middle return to the manifold pipe?
(perhaps i need a picture)
Thanks guys.
BTW i was consuming 950 ml of CAstrol edge every 10K km (which i gues is not bad for the particular engine) . Lets see if that improves with the new breather pipe.
I own a 2010 Cupra currently in its 2nd engine (MY12.5 spec engine) after having missfires in no3 cylinder of my first engine . Both engine had similar oil consumption though, which is not too bad for a VW.Last edited by Varnak; 24-12-2012, 07:48 PM.Custom Stage1+ remap -- Pipercross panel replacement-- S3 322x28 pots-- 9.2 LT FMIC
