It's not normal ... mine only got worse and worse... running to rich? My dealer did mention it on the problem sheet so that's proof enough that its not normal to me. And yeah since new engine there not a single splatter on the back of the car.
It was suggested to me to get an emissions test if they didn't come to the party about it. I can't imagine with that output it would pass the test (mine was blowing plumes of burnt oil as well though).

I had the black soot on my exhaust as well.. but since I started to drive a bit more careful (waiting for the engine oil temp to hit >80C before revving above 4,000rpm) the soot appears to have gone away.
Will be doing ALOT of driving this week, so will keep an eye on it.
I also have added 1.4L of oil to my engine after only 3,500kms - i've been told now to bring it in to the dealership every 1000km for a oil check.
Its a bit of a frustrating sidetrack, as apart from this issue I love my GTI to death.MY12.5 Candy White 5 door Polo GTI. Upgrades/Mods = RNS510 H LED, RVC camera, Auto Lights Dash Sound Actuator GTI button, Gavs Footrest(!)

Me too, I never pass 3500rpm until oil temp hits 75-80 degrees celcius
Never topped up any oil since day 1 but I do my oil changes very often and check my dipstick every week.

ok due to the excessive oil usage and the replace pisston rings fix not working the new fix has now just been released as of yesterday the modified engine breather pipe 03c103474ad tpi 2025520/5 engine must be using over 500ml over 1000ks so you might still have to have oil consumpion tests also as part of the tpi is a software update for the engine ecu so all you boys that have chips might have to get reflashed by your tuners afterwards the pipe is an easy replacement and software update should only take no more than 2hours all up. parts may need to be ordered in so you could have a little wait.

i have had full blown two stroke race bikes that have used less oil. no engine ever should use that much oil and a manfacture should not be able to sweet talk there way out of it with half assed after thought fixes.
i no this rant wont help stop the oil usage but just getting it of my chest

HI guys,
todays update as the workshop in adelaide will contact me to do the oil seperator at 3800km but i was also told VWA came round and said my high pressure fuel pump noise on the gti is part of the character considering 6weeks ago ,they saw the vehicles pump was the problem and accepted it was the fault .Incidentally, its the third pump change.Either its a bad batch of pumps or definitely other surrounding issues.Injector maybe? Desperately,i test another new gti in the show room this afternoon and its without the rattling noise upon acceleration.
As i am getting mix message and told the supportive workshop that i cannot accept the story and they will pursue for me.The list of things fix so far is far too many. What a nightmare just begin.Bit of input from you guys will help. Thanks tay

Looks like I'll be heading to the dealer this weekend for a topup. Just checked and the cupboard is nearly bare!
