I thought they were German built because the ships come from Germany. No wonder it takes so ruddy long.
According to VW the Polo GTI is currently being sent from the factory to the ports in Spain and when it reaches Spain it'll be shipped to Germany and then to Aust. All up he said it will take 10 weeks from reaching the Port in Spain, and then 1-2 weeks sitting around at the docks in Melbourne before it reaches the dealership.
So much for a late September delivery
2011 Polo GTI - Reflex silver, metallic. Ordered 29th Jan, received 8th Oct.
Ummm, whaaaa? Was this VW customer "care" that told you this?
Dealers can actually see when the car gets loaded onto the train and at which loading yard, the car only ever goes on 1 boat. The car will probably sit at the factory in Pamplona for a week or 2, then get loaded onto the train, the train then goes to Bremerhaven where it will likely sit for another week before being loaded onto a boat. Then, you have a 6-7 week journey to melbourne, where it will be unloaded, then expect another 3-4 week wait until you get it.
Ask them which port in spain, just to confirm my suspicions would you please?

Ahh that's a mistake on my part. When the VW guy said it was being sent from Spain to Germany I assumed it was by ship. Will be calling VW again next Monday to get the VIN (since I'm told the system updates every Monday).
Countdown has starting till we get to pick up our baby. Was going to be this friday but because of the EKKA P/H it now wont be ready till monday. ARGH!!!!
Called Barloworld VW Aus today and managed to get the VIN.
Shoved it into the tracking website and apparently it had been shipped out from Bremerhaven on the 16th - Ship Oberon.
ETA 25th of September.

So what exactly is the process after the ship docks at the port of arrival. How long before the car gets sent to the dealer? Does the dealer do something to the car?
Thanks

Car is unloaded, taken into possesion of Patrick Autocare, different to Patrick Stevedores. Car loaded onto a truck and taken to Patrick Autocare in Laverton. Once scanned in, the VIN is flagged as allocated to a customer or not. If it is allocated, then VGA in sydney are allerted that the vehicle has arrived and is at Autocare. VGA then contact the dealership that ordered the car, then it is at the discretion of the dealership how long it sits there. If you're lucky like GTI Joe, it might sit there a day before being sent to the dealer. Mine sat there for 3 weeks. AUtocare then fit the compliance plate to the car, then truck it out to the dealer. THe stock controller generally then checks teh cars as their off-loaded form the truck (clearly not very well in some cases as there was damage on someone's polo when they picked it up). Once at the dealership or their specific pre-delivery area, many things happen inlcuding spring spacers removed, protective films removed, ECU re-flashing (supposed to happen), display protectors removed, a wash, maybe a proper detail, generally it's about a full day's work, if not 1.5 days. You then go into the dealer, hand over your hard earned, get shown a few features of the car and then hightail it outta there!
Oh, the next thing you do is switch your MFD to oil temp ad wait until it's around the 90 degree mark, best to do this with the car stationary. Run that baby HARD from the get-go, take it up to redline even and use lots of engine braking from high revs to bed in the rings. Otherwise, you will driving around a 2 stroke Polo GTI. Potentially

Hey drewnsue25, I'm in the same boat as you (ordered in Feb) so I hope the increased production claim is true! But this is currently already being discussed in another thread.
