Also, when do you arrange the number plate?

Dealerships are given a batch of plates. One of these will be assigned to your car. You can ask the dealership to make sure that a particular number isn't included (a lot of superstitious Chinese request a plate without the number 4 as it is the same word for death).

If you're referring to personalised plates, I ordered my euro ones through vicroads, got them five days later (prisoners must not have been busy!) and handed them to the dealership a couple of weeks before my car was due to arrive at the docks.

Hey just a quick question for all those of you who are expert trackers and have received vehicles. How long roughly was it between the car being at the dock in Germany and getting on the boat to come to Aus? How long roughly are they just sitting there waiting for a ship.

This is crazy, I'm sweating with anticipation.
Dealer informed me about 3 weeks ago that the car was due to arrive on the docks of Fremantle on the 25/08/11....thats today

I've been looking at the port webcams and can't see any car transports in the harbour, but there were two in yesterday....surely it was one of them....

unfortunately and for my own sanity I didn't ask the dealer months ago for a VIN as I didn't want to become overwhelmed with the anxiety of all the tracking....now i'm regretting it as I have no idea if it has landed or not....

I've practically chewed my fingers off....i'm so, so very sad.....

Long time lurker, first time poster! I'm interested to know how long people have been waiting who have ordered their cars early to middish this year?

I put my deposit down on the 26th of May, and was advised at the time it would be Q1/Q2 of 2012. I ordered from Osborne Park Volkswagen and so far it has been like trying to get water out of Uluru to get updates from them. I got an update today advising that they will get "updates on stock soon", but nothing more concrete than that.

My order was bog standard 3 door white Polo GTI with the bi-xenon headlights & RCD510.

Can't wait!

Edit: I was also advised by John Hughes VW last week that for new orders for WA now it is a 26 month wait!

Mate, if you have been lurking a while you would have learned pretty quickly that the best thing anyone associated with VGA is good at is lying!

If you ordered in May, you would be very, VERY lucky to get the car by the end of q2 2012. If you have been told by a dealer that the wait is now 26 months, based on the production vs demand vs australia-is-not-a-speck-in-the-eye-of-VW-production, I think you should budget on a similar wait.....

So...I just received an e-mail from the delivery coordinator at VW bayside informing me that my Polo GTI is onboard a ship called the 'Oberon' which should arrive in Melbourne on the 30th of August. :S Hang on...that's today!! Too bad I already know from tracking of the Oberon that it's still docked at the port outside Baltimore, USA and not scheduled to arrive in Melbourne until the 26th of September.

Bunch of noobs.
