So in general, yes an AWD car will almost always be faster than a FWD provided the weights are similar .... as the weight goes up parity gets closer.
Prime example is the A3 2.0T in stock form ....
1300kg FWD 2.0T is 0-100 in 7.2s
1550kg AWD 2.0T is 0-100 in 7.1s
Not much in it time wise, but look at the extra 250kg the AWD is carrying.
In modded mode, both at 188kw, you'd find the FWD A3 at around 6.3s and the AWD at around 5.8s ......
Over 400m that extra weight will mean the gap gets closer .....
So for a WRX/STI to do a similar 400m time, given its 200odd kgs weight advantage, would mean its actually slower 0-100 ..... and how many times on public roads do you actually get to use 400ms of road flat out .... a 0-100 figure is much more meaningfull in the real world ..... and my Tig has certainly backed this up against many "more fancied" cars on the road ....
