I have often wondered how the advantage of awd cars faster 0-100 times than fwd cars translates across to 0-400m times and speeds? Does a faster 0-100 time always mean a faster 0-400m time?
    In a 1300kg car a 14.5s 400m certainly would equate to around 6.5s ..... however in a 1600kg car that same 14.5s 400m would almost certainly equate to around 6.0s ....

In the Tiguan its weight counts against it, and over longer runs, such as 400m it would start losing ground to cars that are slower 0-100km/h

So in general, yes an AWD car will almost always be faster than a FWD provided the weights are similar .... as the weight goes up parity gets closer.

Prime example is the A3 2.0T in stock form ....

    1300kg FWD 2.0T is 0-100 in 7.2s
    1550kg AWD 2.0T is 0-100 in 7.1s

Not much in it time wise, but look at the extra 250kg the AWD is carrying.

In modded mode, both at 188kw, you'd find the FWD A3 at around 6.3s and the AWD at around 5.8s ......

Over 400m that extra weight will mean the gap gets closer .....

So for a WRX/STI to do a similar 400m time, given its 200odd kgs weight advantage, would mean its actually slower 0-100 ..... and how many times on public roads do you actually get to use 400ms of road flat out .... a 0-100 figure is much more meaningfull in the real world ..... and my Tig has certainly backed this up against many "more fancied" cars on the road ....

I'm not questioning the value of the stage 1 remap on the 125TSI. It appears to be the best bang for your bucks improvement being offered on any car - Golf R power for cheap that's for sure.
        APR Stage 1 - 98RON

Put some lightweight wheels and lowering springs in and take out the spare and run on a 1/4 tank of fuel and you could get yourself down close to the bottom 14's imho.

If you have Stage 1 already loaded on the car and then get the intake and downpipe you get stage 2 software free.
Might want to check with the APR person or Guy on here to clarify but from memory you can't skip stage 1 and go straight to Stage 2 and get free software.

Yes, Stg2 software is only free if ....

            you already have Stg1 software

            and

you purchase an APR downpipe (other brands will not get you any Stg2 Apr software)

            • But i can put on a downpipe (non-APR) and buy APR stage 2 software yeah?

I want to go with APR rather than GIAC because i know it works.

              • You would have to talk to the APR person about it.
As far as i can tell there is no other downpipe suitable for the 4Motion tiguan.
And from memory you have to actually pay for stage 1 before you can go to stage 2 (which includes a free software upgrade to the new map)

There was a big rundown of the costs in the Mk6 section, i will see if i can find it for you.

Note that the tiguan already has a higher rated fuel pump so that is not necessary.
Also the downpipe for us is $2000

                For Stage 2 you require:
                APR Stage I ECU @ $1695 RRP
APR Divorced Downpipe and Hi-flow Cat @ $2495 RRP.

                Optionally you can have:
Carbonio TFSI Cold Air Intake @ $575 RRP (although, I'd be hoping that the TSI version is compatible by the time of this group buy)
                APR Front Mount Inter-Cooler @ 1995 RRP
APR Golf R Full Turbo-Back Exhaust @ $3995 RRP (this includes the above downpipe/cat, so you can take off $2495 from there)

The Fuel Pump is a requirement for Stage II+ (along with the downpipe) and is $1230 if you exchange your stock fuel pump, or $1695 if you keep your stock fuel pump.

Give us a call in the office & let us know what your plans on upgrading are & we can let you know how it works rather than clogging up this 1/4 mile thread.

                  • Not really a qtr mile question I know, but is it just me, or does anyone else notice that a stock 125TSI appears to give more kick when throttle is only say 3/4 pressed as opposed to flat to the floor?

I thought it was just me being silly at first, but the more I try it, the more it seems to happen for me anyway??

                    • I have to agree, I noticed this as well. Maybe something to do with fly by wire? Not really sure.

Could also be the haldex/torque converter/ESP etc kicking in as it would sense wheel spin was going to occur if you put it to the floor.

No I don't think so, happens at fairly high speed also.

Yep, also agree here as well.

                            • Have tried this a few times now after it was on my sub-conciousness for a little while...
Foot flat to the floor: mildly disappointed.
Half - 3/4 throttle: surprisingly impressive!
I think you're onto something, DW!

                              • I'm wondering if it has something to do with the stock 125 computer software. ie, the computer says, when foot flat to the floor, have to hold back on power output, whilst if foot 3/4 to the floor doesn't trip this part of the computer? I hope the above makes some sort of sense??
