  • Tiguan Performance - quarter mile

G'day everyone, haven't been on for a while now but thought I'd post the latest results!
So, I went down to the Motorplex last night for a run in the Tig...

new mods (since my last run) have worked out quite well -
    APR Carbonio Intake Stage 1 + 2
    APR Intercooler
    H&R Lowering Springs

I only had an APR Stage 1 tune the first time and ran a 14.503 @ 92.78mph

With the new mods, including removing rear seats and spare tyre etc, I got down to a:

    14.02

    Stoked!!

    Elapsed Time 14.022
    Terminal Speed 97.40mph 156.75km/h
    60' 2.136
    half track 8.986 @ 127.37

That is a pretty noticable gain.
Did you launch using the autohold technique?

Just imagine what figures you would be on if you got the downpipe and Stage 2 tune.

I have been hesitant about running mine due to concerns about the clutch.

      Well done Karl !!

Agree with team_v, add the DP + software and you'd be below 14s .....

      Some news I've got

I did some testing about a month ago in a 125 TSI Manual Tig (not my own) with only a Stg 1 map (and stock 16" Bridgestone tyres) .... the driver is very adept at getting it off the line ..... 0-100 on my G-Tech Pro in .... 5.92s ..... did 3 runs 6.23s, 6.03s and 5.92s ..... no space for 400m times .....

That is noticably quicker than a std Golf R manual ...... and for less than $38K new on the road .....

        Johan,
You know that last jibe is going to cause trouble with the "R Owners Association"
Will be interesting to see how a Stage 1 DSG will compare

Bang for your buck you can't go past the Tiguan in the VAG Lineup.

Not just them and their slow Rs .... but that time was quicker than the R, STI and EVO !!!! that Wheels magazine tested in their Oct 2010 issues ..... .... out of a base 125TSI with only a single mod being the chip ....

Really smooth and quick 2nd to 3rd changes was what got us those times .... I tend to fluff the 2nd to 3rd in the Tig on quick runs as there seems to be some gap there that gets me, but the owner of the Tig we tested had no such issues ....

Incidentally I believe those times would have netted us about 14.3s on the qrtr, so Karl's 0-100 times would be even lower .... in order to do a 14s dead, he'd be looking at 5.7 or less as the weight of the Tig counts against it on 400ms ....

I have always believed that my Tig will do around 5.7s as I have no problem dispatching 6s cars .... but until I do a clutch upgrade, won't be testing that ....

If it has launch control it will be even quicker ... if not it will be slower ....

Is this When Golf R owners place a comment like . We could Stage 1 flash our R and we would have sub 5 sec runs. No no we will leave that comment out... lol.. Good times from that 125. Sharkie I wonder what times you can get out of the Multivan when it arrives.. Now with 3years unlimited Warranty.. Woop woop..

No, this is where we say that specific Tig cost $33990 drive-away + less than $1700 for the chip .... total less than $37K compared to the 5 door R at $49990+ORC .... its all about bang for your buck, Phillip ..... ..... you'd be spending in excess of $55K to get better performance out of another new VW .....

I'd be happy if the Van actually made it to a 100 .... , and I need 6 years unlimited warranty to alleviate my DSG concerns .....

Mmmmm .... just thinking .... I could go to Stg 3 and crack 5s in the Tig and still spend less than $50K all up ..... Bargain ....

Sooooo tempting ..... or maybe just a KO4 turbo upgrade AND match the chipped Rs .....

                    AWE Tuning - Products

With the Aussie $ being so strong right now, this is a real option ...... I suspect less than $5K fitted for 250kw ........ BARGAIN !!!!

And look here .... http://www.awe-tuning.com/media/acce..._st2_accel.jpg chipped only Tig quicker than K04 GTI DSG ....

I was considering stage 3 but i think i will just stick with stage 2, it is quick enough to blitz the traffic light grand prix and still useful enough for soft-roading if i need it.

I believe Guy said the K04 wasn't a worthy upgrade in a previous thread.
I think he said the GT28s is the one you should look at for a turbo upgrade.

Bang for your buck performance is where it's at.
With the 20k difference over the R you could build a fun track car or go on some awesome holidays.

I believe this is a question of perspective ..... APR would like you to upgrade to Stg 3 at a cost exceeding $15K with labour and extra bits required .... K04 will come in at around $5K including labour..... Stg3 will deliver about 275kw and K04 about 250kw, which is better bang for your buck .... value for money ? .... its got to be the K04 kit .....

If you are going to upgrade, then the K04 is better value for money for sure.
Also the GT28 would be a bit more laggy i presume since it is a bigger setup.

All we need is APR to do a Tiguan K04 kit at half the price of the Stg 3 kit (.... which is possible I suppose ....) and all would be good ....
