Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I can confirm the settings above do work to activate DLA. I Just tested it on my MY18 R-Line (NZ spec) and the shuttering is very noticeable and effective.
Getting it to work took a few attempts but was generally in line with the posted instructions.

So this will throw high beam light either side of the car in front but not on them?
For both travelling behind and also oncoming traffic?

There is a lot of confusion between light assist (automatically lowers high beam lights) and dynamic light assist where it uses shutters (and other trickery) to not dazzle the car in front, so just wanted to make sure Im talking about the correct one you've activated?

Great news that you have it working!

      • What did you have to do different/as well as- compared to the provided instructions?

        Cheers.

Yes, this is for DLA (Dynamic Light Assist) so using shutters to form the light around oncoming / following vehicles. I was impressed with how effective it was.
I had also previously activated HBA (High Beam Assist) so am 100% we are talking about the same thing.

I followed the instructions to the end and ran basic settings. On starting the car and turning on the high beam I would still get a DLA fault which I couldn’t clear.
At the end of page 2 of the coding instructions there is some additional coding for if you continue to get a fault. I entered all of this coding and it cleared the DLA fault but created a new one with turning lights which I also could not clear.
For my car, activating Byte 11, Bit 2 was causing this issue. Once I deactivated this I could clear the faults and the system worked.

            Hope that helps.

So you were able to get the DLA to function properly?

What model Tiguan do you have ? An MY18 or MY19 ?

                    • Hey guys, after looking into this further, I was mistaken. My late 2018 build MY 19 Wolfsburg Edition does NOT have DLA. I have confirmed this with the dealership and they have told me none of the Wolfies have it. Bloody weird if you ask me because the base Comfortline does. Sorry for the confusion.

                      • Take a good pic of one headlight. It’s easy to tell.

I don’t trust the info given to me by dealers/sales people. Once you’ve worked for a car company you learn the horrible truth of the industry...

I don’t trust any dealer mate, I’ve been in the industry for a long time and know they know little. They didn’t even know the R lines and Wolfies had launch control, even the basics are mostly beyond them. I’ve looked at the spec list and it is shown on the 19 Comfortlines but not the R line or the Wolfsburg.

Looking at the headlights I would say it’s able to enabled but as far as it coming enabled from the factory, the R line and Wolfie do not.
                          👍

                          • Are you sure that Comfortlines have dla enabled?

I have a allspace, which generally seem to be specced the same, or even a smidge better than ‘normal’ tiguans and the Comfortline I drove didn’t have dla.

Seems weird how you’ve described it.

If you do have the mid lights though, it seems you can enable the feature(if you have DAP hardware) as the missing pieces are the shutter headlights and the camera that is apparently different.

                              • I checked the technical specs of the Wolfie vs Allspace.

Wolfie does NOT have the DLA as even an optional line item. Its not mentioned in the spec sheet at all.
Allspace - Optional for Comfortline, Standard for Highline

It seems so bizarre to me, that even the highest end Tiguan would not have DLA as an standard let alone option to add.

Looks like for the Tiguan Highline/R-line/Wolfies owners - it will have to be via coding (if its even physically possible)...Would love to know if this is a path owners can take.
