Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes not so many tyres in this size unfortunately. And because it's not that common the prices will carry a bit of a premium.

Though good thing is you can get Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in this size

That's interesting, my Tig has 235/55 R18 Continental ContiSportContact 5.. I feel like the Pirelli will last longer but I would have thought all Sportline would be running the same tyre.

Exactly. It also gives me a good excuse to buy them as there’s not that many other good options.

Yeah, I put them on my 7R and then sold it 10,000km later

Oh well, PS4s for the new car when they’re worn out and PS3s for my Caterham 7 when the Federals are done.

What’s the difference between the PS3s and PS4s?

To be honest I don’t know. The only reason I’m looking at PS3 is that there doesn’t appear to be a PS4 in 195, 55, R15.

Ceramic coated the paint using Nova EVO today. Washed, clay bar, polish, ceramic coated.

Also did the wheels to make them easier to clean...

Was it hard to apply yourself? Did you cure it in the sun for x amount of hours?

Have you heard of Auto Kleen Carbon Coat?

Thanks Lucas. I’m pretty pleased with the purchase.

Just doing the post-delivery detailing fabric/paint protection and then my wife is going to drive it for a bit.

I’ll do a major service on the Scirocco and then we’ll swap and the Tig will be my daily/work car.

I’ll probably hold off doing any major “upgrades” until after the first service...

It was pretty easy, though it takes a fair amount of time in preparation (wash, decontamination, polish, clean, apply product) so you really need to allow a good part of a day.

With the Nova Evo it has an 8 hour drying time (dependent on ambient temps) and they say not to get it wet during this time. Also not to wash your car for a week until it fully cures.

Obviously if you have heat lamps you use them but I’m just going to park it up in the carport for the next 4-5 days as it won’t need to be driven until next week. Parking in the sun would be another option (you want to apply the product on cool paint though) as this will help speed up the curing process.

There’s a lot of coatings on the market and many different brands. I just went with the one recommended by my local detailer which he stocks/supplies. He said the Nova Evo has a 3 year life and is pretty easy to put on. He said it’s a step up from the $100 coatings but easier to apply than the “Professional” coatings.

Time will tell how this lasts, however I’d always recommend putting on a ceramic coat to protect the clear coat from bird droppings, etc.

@tigger73, would you mind sharing the products you used for each of the steps? did you apply iron remover as well? IPA wipe?
I'm thinking of DIYing the ceramic coating when I get my tiggy, but have never done car detailing before.
                                thanking you in advance.
