Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • One for the city dwellers with DSG. 'Noticed in traffic yesterday that light pressure on the brake while at the lights (with stop/start deactivated) leaves the clutch engaged. I knew this because the revs were up slightly and the moment I lift off the car moves instantly without the expected engagement delay. When you press the brake more firmly, idle revs decrease and there's the delay when you release, meaning the clutch was disconnected.

Could make a difference to the long term service costs for the DSG ?
    2017 - Golf R 7.5 - Blue - DSG - Proper Roof - DAP - Res' delete - Dynaudio delete
2008 - Mazda 2 - (Maybe my first child scared me a bit) -1998 - Wrx (modded up to but not including forged pistons)
    1988 - Corolla TwinCam - (couldn't insure a 323 Turbo)
1967 - Tonka Tip Truck - Red with 2 inch plastic rims and a massive sand scoop.

Anyone got any news to share regarding changes we're likely to see for MY19 spec Golf 7.5?

Personally, I think DAB+ radio would be very welcome, and maybe a HUD...

      Anyone? Anyone?
Presumably no news must be good news...

I too have observed same, and presumed same conclusion. Trying to learn to press harder on brake when stopped.
When pressing hard on brake pedal, I also see a small indicator in the MFD, showing the AutoStopStart is disabled.

        • If you press lightly on brake pedal to stop at lights (with auto stop engaged) you can activate the green park brake but not turn the engine off. The revs will also drop back indicating the clutches have disengaged. Push a harder on the brake and the engine will stop unless a/c overloaded etc.

            • From 2019 Volkswagen Golf updates detailed | CarAdvice

"The Golf's performance range has seen updates too, with the Golf GTI now getting the 'Performance' specification as standard equipment. As previously reported, that brings a more powerful 180kW/370Nm engine tune, a seven-speed DSG, larger brakes, and a mechanical limited-slip front differential, but no more manual option.

Also new to the GTI as standard for 2019 are the Active Info Display, along with the Driver Assistance Package – adaptive cruise with traffic jam assist, lane assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, park assist and light assist are all standard."

whoa they have very much responded to the likes of i30n..

              • I had my reservations about the Spielbergs on the 7.5, but I will say they are much easier to clean than the Talladegas on the Mark 6.

I really love what Hyundai are doing with the i30N. It makes the cars we actually want better equipped and better value, by providing some real competition. Keep it up I say...

                  • All colours are available in the UK on all Models. I canniot understand why Australia only gets a limited colour choice considering RHD cars are all made in the same place.

VW in Aus does some silly things, luckily with the 7.5 the tech has been imported - that use to be dumbed down too, and still is with Traffic etc unless you know how to code it. Reminds me of BMW, limited colour options and their mentality ‘we know what the market wants’.

                        • Could it also be legislation that they have to comply with? I can imagine in Vic alone there would be all sorts of rules they'd have to deal with in relation to traffic assist...

it seems a bit absurd to exclude some of these things otherwise

                          • I think VIC is the main state that has issue with traffic assist. I'm having trouble finding the article, but I'm sure I read something about VAG doing a Traffic Assist demo in Melbourne to try and show Vicroads it wouldn't bring about the end of the world.

I don't have TA, but I find the ACC really handy in roadworks, near accidents and in bottlenecks.

                            • Hi,

Recently I found out that there is no warning light for low windscreen washer liquid. Could you please owners of 7.5 Golf confirm that is the case? The warning light is a safety thing and I was suprised VW cut costs and did not add this to the latest Golf.

                              Cheers!

                              • Think mine ran out yesterday, haven’t noticed a warning light.

In 20 years, never driven a car that has had a warning light for that (that I know of).
