Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Pretty sure there is meant to be one.

    • I've upgraded from a mk6 gti to a mk7 gti, previously you could pause bluetooth audio through the RNS510 on the steering wheel, left side bottom button. Am I missing a trick here but doesn't seem like you can do it anymore?

It seems you can only pause using the head unit. Which if you are in navigation you need to manually click out, go into audio then click pause.

Not too mention the removal of internal hdd and dvd playback. The MIB II is mean to be an upgrade right? But not too worry i can add logo to radio station and view image gallery...

      • I've got a MY15, the voice command button on the steering wheel pauses music. I don't have voice command activated.

I also believe you can control what that button does with VCDS if you don't have voice command activated as well, and it currently does nothing for you.

Thats interesting, when I click on mine I get the message, "You can activate voice control function by means of an activation key. Please contact your dealer" or another one like "Voice command is not enabled"

Might go back into the dealership and see whats up.

            Ya, mine is MIB 1.

I do recall seeing a setting you can change using VCDS to modify the behaviour of that button.

            • Stupid question time.

My GTI is stating that it's due for an "oil service" in 7 days. My car is due for it's 15,000km service (so first proper service) in around a month's time.

Wait for the main service, or am I supposed to be doing something about this oil service other than checking it's not losing too much!?

Sounds like the presale check was done 3 weeks before you bought it as the warnings are pretty accurate. Mine came up last week bang on time.

                Wait for normal service

B*stards onto it too long then! Ok, will wait for the proper service. Cheers.

                  • Los Speed Noise (sound like Dot Matrix Printer) on MK 7

Title should be Low Speed Noise not Los.

My Golf has this noise at a low speed approximately 4-5 km /hr, it happens intermittently but usually when we drive up-hill and when the car is warm (more than 30 minutes driving at least).

My Golf is 6 months old and the dealer has replaced the charcoal canister but still has not resolved the problem.

                    Any idea?

                    • service/warranty

hey guys , just took my wifes golf 7 tsi in for a 45k service this time we used a euro specific workshop rather then VW dealership

picked the car up today and there were some notes

                      1.oil leaking from bell housing
2.fault code no communication with gear selector module
                      3.rattle noise

now last service VW did some work to the DSG gearbox / clutch under warranty could this possibly be the issue with the leak ?

we have never noticed any issue with being locked out or unable to select gears

the rattle noise i am pretty sure is the wastegate rattle from what i gather

the car is booked into vw to have a check but if they cant find any issues we are out of pocket whatever time they spent

the car runs out of warranty next month

just wondering if anyone else has had any issues along these lines ?

                      cheers

Jarryd: Hi: Can't comment about (1) and (3) in your list, but I've had lot's of incidences of the (2) error.

You don't say which model mk7 that your wife has -mine is a MY13 vintage (103TSI). You also don't say (perhaps the "euro workshop" didn't tell you) the type of "no communications" error. Here's a portion of the diagnostic report that I took from my car just prior to it's end-of-warranty service

                        -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, not sure how familiar you are with these reports, but it states that the fault first occurred on 17 April 2016 and the error messages have re-occurred 13 times since that date. Importantly, the report says that the fault is intermittent (alas) albeit, it is confirmed.

Now, I first purchased an OBDeleven diagnostic dongle around this date and my suspicion (I have no hard evidence) is that these errors are caused by this device - in particular, how ODB11 is removed from the car in respect of the ignition status. But this is just a guess!!

Anyhow, I have had my friendly VW dealer have a look at these DTCs - their advice was that nothing was wrong with the car! There are no untoward symptoms with my vehicle (VW kindly replaced a complete set of clutch-plates under warranty as part of my final service - but this was related to a juddering DSG), but I find that if I have the OBD11 dongle connected when the ignition is turned-off, the same intermittent error message invariably appears. I have no idea why!

So, long story short - My entirely uneducated and totally speculative suggestion is to first ask the "euro workshop" whether the DTC was permanent, or intermittent? Then ask them what type of diagnostic device they used to scrutinise your car? If it wasn't ODIS, VCP PRO or VCDS, then consider my hypothesis!!

                        Don

PS: Incidentally, my other suggestion is that you ask the dealer for a copy of the ODIS report that they should create on your car (for the money that VW charges for their services, you are certainly entitled to be given a copy) - check that it has your VIN. Might be a totally unnecessary exercise, but then again, it could be a handy resource to reference if needed later!!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

                        • thanks so much for the info don

sorry the model my wife has is a 2013 mk7 90tsi comfortline dsg

i had a look at the paperwork

VCDS is the program used this time around by the euro workshop

the report is pretty much the same as yours although

                          intermittent - confirmed
                          fault frequency :135
                          date : 2015.09.03

now this is where it gets interesting , the "warranty works clutch packs" was done on the 02/09/2015
also the car was serviced by the vw dealership the week prior to the warranty work for its normal service

is there a way to tell when the issue last happened rather then when it first happened ?

                          thanks again

                            jarryd: Hello again.

Thanks for the information-Short answer is No (alas), but in your case if the error has happened 135 times and you haven't noticed a problem, then it's not a serious issue - perhaps?.

Interesting that it's occurring on two MY13 models though! I wonder if any other MY13 owners have experienced the same issue?

I clearly need to update my hypothesis based on your new data!! Certainly is a bit of a coincidence. I like where you are going with the "jarryd theory" except that in my case, the clutch plate replacement happened well after the error message on my car first appeared! I'm now thinking that perhaps the problem is related to a VW software update that happened around the same time- perhaps? Does your paperwork for the clutch replacement mention any other repairs like updates?

                            Don

                            • had a look at the warranty paperwork from the work done

"carried out software update with adaption drive and basic settings"

this was done prior to removal of gearbox as there was still a shudder after the update

                              "replaced clutch pack for gearbox"
"carried out fault finding and cleared faults"
"carried out adaption drive and basic settings"
                              "road test all ok"

part of me thinks its not a serious issue , my wife has never mentioned anything or had an issue nor have i when i have driven the car

i suppose the leak from the bell housing may be more of a concern.... i havent seen any oil etc in our garage where we park the car

not really sure where to go from this point...

Jarryd: All a bit odd- I agree! What about this as a suggestion: If the VCDS report says that the first instance of the error message was within the warranty period, then why not mention this as a possible issue to the VW dealer. My suspeicion is that they will just reset the error, because it is intermittent!!
