Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I'm not sure if you can with the standard halogen headlights unless you dissect them a bit due to the contact points for the bulbs being proprietary, but with aftermarket ones (such as Ed's Replicas or WinPower) you can put in HIDs and ballasts and have no error codes returned. Obviously without washers or adjustment, HIDs may not be quite legal, but I'll leave that to you.

Intakes for the 1.4L engine are going to be tricky to find for a while as it is quite a new unit, if you *really* want one you can probably get one custom fit for you. As for BOVs/aftermarket diverter valves, see my thread here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...si-103061.html - it seems the 1.4L engine does not have a factory valve.

      • Took delivery of a 103 on Sat. What a brilliant car, just so drivable. With all the buttons and screen options, it has got more bag of tricks than a Nigerian's scammer's smart phone.

The one thing I noticed on leaving the dealership was the irritating dashboard crease being reflected on the windscreen, directly in line of vision. However the next day I noticed it had gone, then I realised I had sunnies on and polaroid factor must have somehow cancelled the reflection!

For us IT challenged senior card holders, the inaccessibility of the CD player will necessitate a change of mindset. Have to get one of the young-uns to show how to put music on SD or USB stick.

            • Picked up my R-Line in December. Same colour but the 103TSI.
Had the driver assist pack added and sunroof as well. Sweet to drive.
Only mods have been setting customisation using the VCDS tool from ROSSTECH. Lights off settings, suna, auto close when it rains etc.
SUNA traffic works a treat. Drove from Adelaide to Melb and back via Great Ocean road a few weeks ago and averaged 5.6L

Was considering the Swisschip which claims 20% increase in power but really after some decent driving time can't see the value in $1K on a maybe box.

              Enjoy the new ride.

              Cheers,
              Linc

Picked up my R-Line 110TDi Highline Golf (Standard Hatch) a couple of weeks ago. Loving the ride. Looking for a few mods to spice things up but nothing fancy. Looking to do the VCDS stuff too eventually. But it looks great as it is. adds a nice touch. Non Vdubbers think its already modded/the R.

Diesel is good, great mileage, smells like diesal sometimes on start/stop. No issues at the 1000kms point!

Any tips on things I can do to make an already sexy car look better?

Oh my word yes I will be getting this.

Was tempted to get GTD badges

                    • I'm looking at perhaps getting a Golf R grille so the lines from headlamps to grill and back to headlamps, (from side to side) match. At the moment the grille line is lower then the line in the headlamps.

Maybe a GTD grille for you

                      • Confuse the hell out of people and get a white GTI front bar (keeping the R-line badge) and Bi-xenon lights on a TDI model, place 7R mirror covers on the mirrors and change the rear skirt to a GTD one with dual exhaust hehe de-badge everywhere else and no one will know what model they are looking at

                            hi

I am about to buy a set of those R headlight replicas from Ed, they're good or not ?

I am asking this 'cause I don't want the WP replicas, there are accounts in other forums of condensation and internal moisture, and other quality issues

It made you comment, so it's already working.
It's kinda like Projekt Eos R36 your going to have haters and you are going to have fans, it's all about having something unique the owner can be proud off or they end up having a mismatch of bits that look like crap either way as long as the owner is happy it doesn't matter.

And for the people who don't care about cars it wasn't done for them.

                              • Hoping someone out there with a 103TSI can answer this for me.

When you are accelerating hard in your car, can you hear the exhaust pop (the "pop pop" noise found in the GTI and R) in the cabin when upshifting?

                                What about with windows down?
