Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Does the golf 90tsi comfortline come with a reverse passenger side mirror tilt?

Hi guys, I have read somewhere prior that some of the golfs have this option. Or I believe I had read it. Does anyone know if this comes standard on these cars, and if so how to use it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Stiv: according to the Golf brochure that I have, the 90 TSI Comfortline does come standard with the mirror tilt function. The only model that doesn't have the mirror lowering function is the basic 90 TSI.

To use the function you first need to enable it. The process for enabling the tilt function goes like this:
      1. Turn on the ignition,
      2. Put the car in neutral, or park.
      3. Press the CAR button, then select Setup (bottom RHS of the next screen - the symbol that looks like a couple of gears), then press Mirror and Wipers, then select Mirror lowering in reverse
      4. Exit the screen
      5. Put the car into reverse.
      6. Select the passenger mirror (i.e. L position) with the knob on the driver door and adjust the mirror so that you get a good view of the curb. The position of the mirror will be saved.
      7. Take the car out of reverse and the passenger mirror will return to the normal position.

To use the tilt function you must have the mirror knob set to L position (for Australian cars). The instructions in the manual (see page 124 for the full instructions) wrongly say to have the knob on the R position.

        Step 6! I missed Step 6!

When I got my car both mirrors would move when adjusting and at this time I was looking at the tilt function and thought, "This tilt angle is useless" found in the menu how to disable the adjust both mirrors at once and then never looked in to changing the view on the mirror when tilted, I just left the mirror knob in neutral position so it would not move. Now I'm itching to get back to my car to try step 6.

        Props for the info DV52

Legend, thanks for that. Works great.

          • Cruise control malfunction - DSG Comfortline

            Hi all,

2013 October build comfortline dsg owner. Trouble free motoring for about a year, then this morning when I was about to engage the cruise control I got this error. Car is at about 8000km, no other issues. Anyone seen this error? I'm away from the car now and haven't been able to look up the error in the manual yet.

            • Good luck finding anything about it in the manual, but probably something got its legs crossed and the error vanished when the car was restarted.

                • Ah Yep ended up finding the info last night. As mentioned when I started the car the next time it was gone and cruise control worked fine. Thanks for the replies

                  • Hey guys. I have my wifey's golf 7 highline wagon booked in tomorrow for a TPI (low rev whistle-replace corrugated charcoal canister filter...). When the car was originally booked in for this work to be completed, the service tech stated that this job would take 3+ hours to complete. I was talking to a friend about this and he said it could be done in 15 minutes. Could someone confirm this, or provide a more accurate timeframe for this task?

                    Cheers in advance.

                    • Warning Light for Low Windscreen Washer Fluid - TSI Highline

                      Hi All

Do you guys know if all Golf 7 TSI Highline have a warning light for low washer fluid?

I do not have xenon headlights.

I don't seem to have one.

My local VW dealer looked up the VIN and told me that the vehicle was not fitted with one.

                      Much Appreciated.

adcha: Very good question! I just looked at the VW brochure and it doesn't mention it. Why not keep operating the washer stalk on the steering wheel until the container is empty and see if you get a warning light on the dash?

                        • Hi

It does not, but I wanted to know if anyone here with a Golf 7 Tsi has one.

I cannot believe that a golf 7 highline does not have one. It does not make sense.

I can confirm that my TSI Highline with Xenons does.

zardoz: Your are correct! I just checked with some VW information that I have and it seems that those models that come factory fitted with xenon do have the washer fluid level sensor installed. It's probably because these models have washer jets for the xenon lamps. Washer jets are an EU requirement- not sure about the ADRs here in Oz. My TSI (like adcha) doesn't have the sensor.

Anyway, for those that want to install the additional kit, here's a wiring diagram and the pertinent VCDS tweak. As you can see it's a fairly simple job (electrically), but a quick look in the engine bay on my car suggests that physically installing the new bottle (with sensor) might be a bit tricky. Looks like you need to remove the bumper cover, perhaps the wheel well trim and maybe the LH headlight assembly. Not sure that it's worth it (for me).

                              • 90 TSI related questions - firs time vw owner

                                Hey guys,

just bought a 2015 90 tsi in manual. Just wondering if there is a way i can go from halogen to HID without coding / errors? i see on ebay there are some "bi xnenon " units but i dont actually understand what that is?

                                - any intakes / bov's that are available for non gti's? i know this is considered a "boy-racer" modification but just wondering.
