Yep, it always happens when I start the engine with start/stop system. I don't feel any vibration but for sure sounds like something is vibrating.

Hi.
I picked up my Golf last week and all good so far. But I am going to sit down and work out the advanced funtions of the MFD! In the meantime, can anyone give me advice/suggestions about the following:
* roof-racks: need them mainly to carry a mal. Are there good alternatives to the VW ones? Any to steer clear of?
* tinting: I've read here about Hunters Hill being good. Are there any good ones closer to the Illawarra? Or is Hunters Hill worth the drive and day out?
* mats: didn't get any in the purchase, so are the 3rd party ones good? recommendations (good or bad)? Avoid generic ones?
thanks

Congrats on the new car. Rhino wing bars work well. Had them on my 92tsi. Fitted well, nice and quiet even with bike racks fitted.
Mats I bought a set of rubber fitted mats for mk7 golf off eBay. Found an Aussie site (can't remember which sorry) but the mats fit perfectly even having the stud housings for the front mats. Rears have a central section to cover the tunnel. Raised white "golf" I can take or leave but they are thick and solid and work well. And pretty cheap - about $75 I recall.
Hope that helps

^^^ hmm......... I can't believe that VW Australia would use another TMC code for its Polo than it does for its other vehicles, but anything is possible - I guess
Here's a list of all the TMC codes that I know. Perhaps try another code - can't hurt!
- 1024 - SUNA Traffic (Intelematics)
- 32771 online traffic + VW TMCPro
- 1537 - I've seen this on MIB units on NAR model mk7s
- 0 - dev options
- 65535 - TMC OFF
Don
PS: another thought - perhaps there is a "virtual switch" in the code-string of the control module for TMC? Does this module have a label file yet - so that the long-coding-helper screens are populated?
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

HI all,
Back in a Mk7 GTI (again). Ive noticed something has changed in the MFD (or something I missed last time). The fuel economy usage now reads since last engine start, not since new. Is there a setting to change this? Not referring to the instant reading, but the more long term one.
Cheers

HELP! Just purchased a MY13 1.4 TSI DSG Comfortline Estate and am having issues.
Hey there,
1st post and straight into grief.
Bought a 2013 1.4 TSI DSG Comfortline Estate with 20000 clicks on it from a factory VW dealer here in NZ
Prior to purchase I asked the dealer to confirm the car had had no warranty work, no mechanical work apart from regular service and no accident damage. Also asked him to confirm the car had no outstanding recalls on it.
Dealer gave me all the answers I wanted to hear The dealer also said he would give the car a service as it was due the 3 year service and put a new warrant of fitness and rego on it. I bought the car sight unseen (I was in the UK at the time)
Dealer delivered the car to the Airport when I flew in to NZ. I had a quick look over it (it was dark) and drove away
On the drive home it started to rain and I discovered the wiper blades were well worn and not clearing the screen well. The next day looked over the car and noticed the front tyres were worn significantly more than the rears. Took car to tyre guy and rotated front to rear. The wiper blades and tyre issues seemed a bit strange considering the car had just been through the 3 yr inspection/service. Whilst looking through the owners manual for service history I found a receipt for warranty work on the wastegate, no mention of this from dealer. I'm getting a bit suspicious now so I popped the bonnet and pulled the air filter, full of flies and dust! Popped the pollen filter and found much of the same. Ring dealer 'please explain". Dealer tells me they only did the oil and filter, I asked if this constituted a 3 yr service/inspection. He said he would check. I did some homework and found that the 3 yr service has a lot more to it including fully flushing the brake fluid.
The same day while driving the car from cold I had a bad shudder when the DSG changed from 1st to 2nd, I thought it was the handbrake engaging. I stopped the car and checked the brake, it was off. Tried to drive away again and had exactly the same issue, stopped again and checked the brake, no problem and drove off again, no issue this time and the issue has not occurred in the last 2 days.
Dealer gets back to me and sheepishly asks for the car back to complete the service, i mentioned the shuddering issue and they have agreed to look at it.
I'm really worried now and have no trust in the dealership, I have the option of returning the car for a refund if they are unable to resolve the issues to my satisfaction.
Here's where you guys can help a brother out. What questions do I need to ask and what answers should I expect to receive from the dealer before I accept the car. What is the status with the DSG recalls for oil change, clutch pack and software updates? The NZ cars have had the DSG warranty increased from 3-5 years. Is there anything else I need be aware of? The car is cosmetically in very good condition inside and out and I would like to keep it if I can get a clean mechanical bill of health.
Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I don't know what happened to my first attempt to reply to your question - I must have hit the "Submit reply" button at the same time that Adam shifted your post. All I know is that I can't see my original reply - so here goes again!!
As I said in my first response (which is now residing in the ethereal ether of the matrix - with Neo), there is in my opinion one absolute MUST-HAVE when buying a car (used-or-otherwise). BEFORE you hand over the hard earned cash/cheque for your final payment - demand a copy of the diagnostic report for the vehicle. If the salesperson says that he/she doesn't have one, then with your most indignant, but polite voice ask - why didn't you perform a diagnostic test on the vehicle as part of the hand-over procedure ? Then smile and ask that a diagnostic report be provided (it's better still to tell the salesman that a diagnostic report will be part of the sales agreement before you sign it)
So - here's why I consider that receiving this report is so beneficial for the purchaser - again, I'm repeating my original response. Modern cars today are really nothing more than 4 x wheels and a bunch of computerised components wired together in much the same way as your home PC network. I'm deliberately overstating the role of these electronic devices because they supervise and manage the mechanical gear and more importantly they provide continuous surveillance of all the mechanical equipment in the car.
These computers are called "control modules" and the results of their surveillance procedures (which happens continuously whenever the ignition is turned-on) is recorded in electronic memory in the car's database. A diagnostic report will identify these errors (if any) including their type, when the error occurred, how frequently the error was recorded, the severity of the error to the cars operation and other information. These errors (called Diagnostic Trouble Codes - DTCs) can be deleted by the car-yard. But, if the DTC is permanent (and is therefore a problem for you as a buyer), it will return and it will be evident in the next report.
In your case, I'm aware that the grubby matter of payment has been concluded - but hopefully the salesman will still provide a diagnostic report to show his/her bone-fides. Of course if the salesman refuses, it suggests that a more fundamental problem exists with the purchase!!
So- before you pick-up your car after it's service - ring the car yard and tell them that you expect to see a copy of the Diagnostic report for the vehicle. The car-yard may use a number of different types of diagnostic device - that' not important. But what is important is the following information:
- The date on the report - must be current
- The VIN on the report - must align with the number on your car
- It must say somewhere for each of the control modules "No faults found" - or something similar (some diagnostic devices simply say nothing if no DTCs are found)
- If DTCs are reported, take particular note of whether they are intermittent, or permanent and their priority number (severity to the car's operation in VW's opinion) - the lower the number the more severe the DTC
- If DTCs are reported - you should get an explanation (in single syllables) as to why the DTCs are present and how they will be rectified
Of course there can be no guarantees that a fault won't occur in the future, but IMO - a diagnostic report is the most valuable piece of advice that the car-yard can provide because it gives you a health report on the car.
Hope this second post makes it out of the matrix - please Neo (Adam?), let it escape!!

Hi Adam. Thanks for the link. As a newbie I am struggling to sort the 'wheat from the chaff' on this one. I'm not sure what posts are factual and relevant to my situation. I am hoping someone who has been in a similar situation can advise me on how to move forward.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the detailed reply. As I said, I have that option of backing out of the deal if the issues are not resolved to my satisfaction. So I am in a strong position regarding any faults. One question on the diagnostics, will the report show if the vehicle has completed all recalls and service campaigns?
Again, many thanks
Chris

But- its common practice (here in Australia, at least) to place a sticker on one of the Pillars whenever a recall is implemented on a car. Not sure if this happens in NZ?
