Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My worry is that the vw dealership will say they didnt find any issues and then give us a bill for time spent

I mentioned the issues to them but they said it means nothing to them and they would have to do their own investigations which i understand but i just have this gut feeling being close to the end of warranty period we might get screwed over some how

It all gets caught by the under-tray. The leak has to be epic to get to the floor.

      • No oil temperature displayed until warm

Does anyone know a tweak to fix this? I assume the oil temperature sensor is still returning some data before it gets up to temperature, so why does it indicate "--- C" until it gets up to 80 or so?

        • Interesting. My 7R hatch starts to report oil temp once it hits 51C.

              • Looking more closely it doesn't start at about 50. I wish it didn't do the dashes though- I'm sure the sensor reads from room temperature. I wonder why it doesn't show it?

                • It's normal. The sensor is not highly accurate below about 50 degrees C (having seen the sensor readout via VCDS from cold, it jumps around quite a bit). The default readout is probably also to hide it at extremely low temps to remind non-tech people that the oil is cold and not providing much in the way of lubrication yet.

This is a great explanation. Thanks.

I wonder if there is a VCDS tweak to show me the number regardless because I hate the dashes!

                    • Does anyone else get a message on the MFD when they start their car that says "ACC deactivated"? I get that message every time I start the car. I don't have cruise control turned on, either.

                      • Just a quick update , vw confirmed there was a leak and also the rattle sound (wastegate) so will be repaired under warranty nothing was really mentioned about the error code for the transmission

Just need to wait for parts from sydney and hopefully it will be smooth sailing after that

                        • Enable Traffic Information (TMC) - VCDS tweak

I’ve been trying to active the Traffic Information but not having too much luck. The info I've been using is from this thread although I have MY16 Jetta with Discover media

The Adaptation Channel, “Fee Based Traffic Information (TMC)” was originally 65535 and I have tried 1024 and 32787.
My Coding for byte 13 of 5F-information Elect. controller was hex08 and I have also tried hex09. (as suggested by DV52).
TP and RDS are set on the radio.

I have had the radio on for about an hour with each setting but no luck.
Some posts say it could take longer. Does the radio have to be on continuously as I don’t normally have it on for that long?

                          Thanks for any help

Bengy: Hi. Few suggestions that might help - I hope:

First-the correct code is 1024 - this is the only code that will work in Australia

Second-have a look at Byte 13 on the control module (@ address hex5F). As shown in the screen shot below, make sure that Bit 3 has a tick in the box. Although not shown overtly in the screen shot below, the other important aspect about this Byte for the TMC tweak is that you have Bit 0 set to 1 (this is the right-most digit in the "Binary" box). This is the actual Bit that enables RDS.

Third -Reset the infotainment unit by pressing and holding down the ON/OFF button - make sure that you hold down the button until the unit switches off and keep holding down the button until it switches on again

                            Don

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

                            • 92TSI Buzzing noise at start-up with Start/Stop system

                              Hi all,

I recently purchased a Golf 92tsi and it has an issue of occasional buzzing noise at start-up of the engine. The noise occurs only a few times a week and I can’t predict when it happens at all. I have taken the car back to the dealer, but as it is very hard to recreate the noise, I guess they don’t know what they are dealing with so all they did was to update the software of engine control module or something.

After the service, the noise still happens. Basically it makes the buzzing sound when I start the engine with Start/Stop system after stopping at traffic lights or at intersections, roundabouts. I think it makes the noise particularly after very short stop (like one or two seconds)

So I am hoping someone on the forum has some knowledge about this issue and can let me know what the problem is.

I uploaded a video, you can hear the noise in the video about 30 seconds in.
Considering you can hardly hear the engine noise in the car, the buzzing noise is quite loud.

                              Thanks in advance

                              • So hard to tell, It does sound like a compressor noise. Very strange, as it sounded like it occurred immediately after the start from the stop/start, and then almost as quickly, it was gone.

Is there any vibration that accompanies the noise, or is it just the noise, or not discernible as to whether there is a vibration at that time?

I guess the good thing having it on video/audio is you can take it to VW at least to gauge what they think it might be. Good luck sorting it.
