Instrument lighting brightness

I've been messing around with the adaptation channels for the instrument lighting and I was hoping (since you have more understanding on the subject than most) you could offer some suggestions.
I'm trying to get my cluster to light up full brightness only if the headlight switch is in the off position. In auto position I want the phototransistor to do it's usual voodoo... I turned up the "day-y" dimming curves and as you say it only affects the clock dials and only seems to affect them with the switch in the off position. I put the switch in auto and the lights dim back to a uniform level with the rest of the cluster. So far so good but in the off position, the centre display, needles and indicator lamps on the cluster still remain dull even though the actual clock dials are now bright enough to use as aircraft landing lights!
I upped the levels of the centre display, needles and indicator lamps but they remain bright a.f when I put the switch to auto... Fail there...
Finally I tried altering the phototransistor x and y values but although it increases everything uniformly it is too bright at night and there's not enough adjustment in the infotainment screen to turn them down...
Hope you can offer a suggestion.

This illumination happens regardless of the position of the rotary light switch, or the time-of-day (i.e. irrespective of whether the car has a RLS/RLHS/RLHS installed, or not). To the extent that the additional illumination provides a "visual" warning for approaching vehicles that a person is at the rear of the car, the tweak is considered a safety feature worthy of implementation.
The tweak is straight-forward and easy to implement, but I have purposefully complicated these instructions to cater of our growing number of USA forum colleagues. As you may be aware, NAR (North American Region) cars have a slightly different lighting arrangement and the factory Leuchte settings for their outer tail-lights are more-functionally rich than our RoW (Rest-of-world)models - due in large part to the fact that the outer tail-lights must also perform the standard blinker activity
A final point - once implemented this tweak will override the normal rear brake-light function. So if you drive with the tailgate opened, the tweak may not be appropriate!
Tail-light illumination when hatch open - Safety feature
- Select 09 - Central Electr control module
- Select Security Access - 16 from the "Open Controller" screen
- Enter the magic number 31347 and return to the "Open Controller" screen
- Select Adaptation - 10 from the "Open Controller" screen
- From the pull-down button check that the default settings for the adaptation channels shown in the table below for either your RoW or NAR vehicle are as indicated in the RoW/NAR Setting column
- For the car type (i.e. RoW, or NAR), change the adaptation channels depicted in the table below to the values in the New Setting column (use the "Search" box to locate the correct channels)
Notes:- I've shown the complete Leuchte-set for both outer tail-lights for completeness, For confirmation though:
- If the car is RoW:
(5)-Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion B 21 and
(5)-Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion B 20need to be changed- If the car is NAR,
(16)-Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion G 21, and
(18 )-Leuchte21BR RC8-Dimmwert GH 21, and
(16)-Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion G 20, and
(18 )-Leuchte20BR LA71-Dimmwert GH 20need to be changed2. If the default factory settings in the car are not as shown in the table- do not proceed with the tweak
Thanks!

I suspect that your fairly unique "wants" might be outside the capabilities of what is possible - but I'm more than happy to be proven wrong! So I suspect that you may need to accept some form of compromise to your (fairly unique) wants and ultimately I think that you will need to apply changes to a combination of functions - but I'm just guessing.
However, there are a group of similar channels in the hex5F module that might be worth investigating in conjunction with the hex17 module channels. I've not experimented with the hex5F channels below - so I can't be definitive as to whether they will help:
Again, this just a suggestion (guess, really), but I'd welcome any feedback from your experiments -pleaseENG117916-ENG101574-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-X1 ENG117916-ENG99557-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-X2 ENG117916-ENG102140-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-X3 ENG117916-ENG102936-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-X4 ENG117916-ENG103548-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-X5 ENG117916-ENG113992-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-X6 ENG117916-ENG99777-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-Y1 ENG117916-ENG100480-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-Y2 ENG117916-ENG100773-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-Y3 ENG117916-ENG100631-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-Y4 ENG117916-ENG102174-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-Y5 ENG117916-ENG113993-Dimming_Illumination_for_Display_Unit-Y6

Thanks!
MichaelI've been thinking about doing the same, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. The pic that i'm considering is a recent snap of my GF and me (for clarity - I'm male and I'm the one on the left) - what do you think?
On more serious matters, the short answer to your question is alas, NO - because the BCM on mk7.5's seem to vary greatly depending on build-year, model and country of sale.
That said, my tweak instruction uses a very un-sophisticated principle: simply find a "spare" Lichtfunkion channel (read, a Lichtfunkion channel setting not active and with an associated Dimmwert channel that is not zero) on the Leuchte-sets for both the left and right side outer brake lights and change the value to Heckdeckel offen (German for "Boot lid open"). Because the car will (normally) be stationary when the boot is opened, there are no real conflict resolution considerations in this tweak as to where to place this leuchte command - hence it's a relatively benign tweak with a low probability of error IMO.
So, and again with the caveat that my knowledge of the factory programming for the outer brake lights on Mk7.5 NAR LED tail-lights isn't that good - I don't think that there is anything special about these fittings (i.e. the special US style added turn-signal function in the brake-light doesn't apply to LED fittings - I think). This assumes of course that the BCM on your car still uses Leuchte-sets to control the tails!
If my hypothesis is correct, I suspect that the "RC8" and "LA71" Leuchte-sets on these fittings only have one light-function (i.e. Brake light) - which means that an efficient place to add the Heckdeckel offen command would be Lichtfunktion B channel on both Leucht-sets.
But if I'm wrong (entirely possible) and you can't find a workable alternative channel, paste-up one of the brake light Leuchte-sets from your car here.

Stunning picture DonI like your sense of humor!
In addition to coding the tail-light on when hatch open feature there are three more tweaks I can't get to work which are fog lights on with high-beams, fog lights flash together with high-beams (when main dipped beam is off/on) and 3rd brake light flash when locking/unlocking car or hazards flash.

For the boot-lid open tweak - do this (bracketed entries are your default values):
ENG116956-ENG116267-Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion G 20 > Heckdeckel offen (not active)
ENG116956-ENG116269-Leuchte20BR LA71-Dimmwert GH 20 > 100 (0)

ENG116957-ENG116288-Leuchte21BR RC8-Dimmwert GH 21 > 100 (0)
For the fog light tweak, just follow my instructions HERE
For the 3rd Brake light tweak try this (although I have received feedback that the first 2 x options can be problematic on some mk7.5s):

Thanks for the admap (I'll add it to the others in my database)
For the boot-lid open tweak - do this (bracketed entries are your default values):
ENG116956-ENG116267-Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion G 20 > Heckdeckel offen (not active)
ENG116956-ENG116269-Leuchte20BR LA71-Dimmwert GH 20 > 100 (0)
ENG116957-ENG116286-Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion G 21 > Heckdeckel offen (not active)

Fog light tweak works!
3rd brake light tweak half works and you did mention it could be problematic. After going through the coding chart to compare my stock values against the tweaks I noticed something odd. ENG116302-Leuchte 22BR MA57-Lichtfunktion F 22 stock value was "Ruekfahrlicht" and not set to "Not Active". I went ahead and coded it to "Blinken rechts Dunkelphase" per the instructions and after coding everything else the only visible tweak results are:
1. When using L or R turn signal the 3rd brake light flashes in sequence (didn't really want this because I feel it could confuse drivers??)
2. Hazard button engaged flashed 3rd brake light in sequence with rear turn signals (does not work)
3. Hello, I've got a question about the headlights on my golf 7.5 with "simple led" I've got the \_ _/ and not the \_\_ _/_/. Now is my question:
I want my white drls orange and when I turn the blinkers on it needs to be blinking white. Just the opposite of default from factory. (here in EU) But the most important what I want is that the Amber (corner lights) shining always. Same as US standlight golf 5. I've searched everything but I can't find it. I only find it for the golf 7. Not the 7.5 with led (lowbeam)
