Could be the soundaktor rattling around, they are known to cause buzzes and rattles in the dash. A search should find some posts on how to wrap it with foam (or remove it altogether) to stop rattles.

Yep, all over it, cheers. I’ll take it to the dealer. It has rattled since I drove it out of the showroom a bit over a week ago.

It seems to rattle whether the engine sound is in “eco” or “race”. And today it developed a second rattle.

I quite enjoy the sound of the soundaktor, but I’d live without it if it meant no more rattles! [emoji1]

      • No rattles on mine.

        I also enjoy the soundaktor!

        • Same as WallySimmonds here! However I did test drive another new un-delivered Golf R that had the loudest rattle near the glovebox.

          • I has soudaktor rattle too, switched it off and fixed. Regarding fuel usage My wifes s3 with 7sp has averaged 8.1L 100 km over 25k km in 13 months. So I'd assume all your fuel usages will drop once car loosens up. Also depends on how your drive and driving conditions.

I find the 7SP uses 10% less fuel than the previous 6sp. My 7R stage 2 uses 8.8L 100km over 4 years and 50k km for comparison.

Wally- Your car looks great, opti coat works fantastically. Mine is 4 years on with it and very easy maintenance and shines like it's been detailed when clean.

            • Looking great Wally congrats!

No rattle on mine, but have a seal issue with wind noise coming from driver side corner window at speeds >80km. Will take this to dealer when I get a chance.

                • I think I *might* have a rattle - its very light though and I really have to listen for it. I suspect it's probably the soundaktor though. Hopefully I don't have to turn it off.

What is annoying me is the wiper blades. Wiper on drivers side is shuddering (more noticeable with light rain). Will have a play around with it in the weekend to see if I can fix it.

I have to say though, I don't get why people say these cars are boring. What are people expecting?

With the weather in Melbourne lately I'm glad I made the choice to pick up an R over a M140i..

Fuel efficiency has been pretty meh (up around 11-12 atm) but I've only put 250KM on it, so I'll see how we go when we get to 2k

Yeah the wipers are crap. Gonna swap them with my old car before it goes later this week.

Geez, get cracking boy. I’m already over 900km [emoji41]

Hey Wally, try taking out the DVD case from the glovebox. I did this.... rattle seems to have stopped (I think, touch wood!)

                        • Gonna say these things have done and passed QC in Germany. Should be faultless there and PDI in Aus.
Remove all coins, owners manual, water bottles etc
My Dynaudio will find all above to shake rattle and roll.

                          • I have had an annoying vibrating sound (like a buzzing sound) but only on **** country roads. First time it sounded like the drivers side A pillar, when I held my hand on it, it stopped. Another time it sounded like behind the dash or passenger seat belt area. The couple of times I've heard it it's gone away as soon as back on city roads.

It's had the odd quirk like radio not automatically switching off when opening the door after engine off. Sometimes I'll push the stop start and the engine won't start or turn off, I think this could be me not hitting it hard or long enough.

Also sometimes when I start the car I have to push ok to get rid of the drive safe warning then other times it doesn't appear. No idea what I'm doing different for it to appear and not appear. Maybe someone can shed some light on that.

Also I hate the way the passenger wiper leaves a line directly down the centre of the driver's window even though the driver's wiper clears it, it will still leave a residue line. Little stuff I know but an annoyance.

I had these exact symptoms. Turned out to be the knee airbag. Try applying pressure to it when you hear the rattle and see if that is the culprit

Was it an easy fix for this? Did dealer know what it was? I’m sure there’s the common ones around that they’re able to diagnose and fix quickly.
