Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Getting a light buzzing sound (appears to be coming from driver's side dash/engine area) around 2,500rpm (constant buzzing whilst at 2,500rpm) on my 7.5R (stock). Buzzing sounds isn't soundaktor as happens on any driving mode (comfort, eco, normal and race), outside this rev range sound goes away. More noticeable when driving on quiet roads and car is in a low soundaktor setting (comfort, normal etc).

Car was in with local dealer today to investigate. Happens that an Australian VW rep was there at the time and they concluded this was a normal throttle body/flap sound and were willing to demonstrate a similar sound being present on another r line they have.

Any forum knowledge on this issue?
Sounds like plastic fuel lines they go from engine room through tunnel and under drivers floor, easy fix at dealer had this in my 7.5 all fixed now particularly noticeable in S if DSG approaching round abouts as revs increase on gear change.

    • I found one of my buzzing sounds, not sure if it's the main culprit but it's the seat belt height adjust right near your ear. On rough roads it vibrates excessively. Just by putting my hand on it, it stops instantly. You can feel the play in the plastic adjuster. Most things are well out together on this car but that item just seems poorly manufactured.

      • I get a buzzing sound when I’m on the freeway and couldn’t pin point it. Thought it was the window seal or something. I then reached back to the belt positioning handle on the B pillar and held it for a bit, perhaps coincidence that it stopped.

That's the one, there may be other rattles buzzes but sound can travel around the cabin so it sounds like it's coming from spots it's not. I'm hoping this is the main culprit

            Interesting.

Are you able to send me a zoomed out photo so I can get a better idea of fix? Any further instructions appreciated.

Mine's a very feint (but annoying) buzzing sound, not metallic, around 2400/2500 rpm disappears outside this rev range. Even then it's not always there, first thing in the morning it's not there but then appears after about 15/20 mins.

I drove another 7.5R at dealership who told me it was a "common" sound yet when I drove their R it had no such sound!

            • Mines developed a buzzing/rattle in the dash. It comes and goes, but if I'm pushing on it rears it's ugly head.

Not sure if it's the Soundaktor or not...what do people recommend? Have got a video of it so I might upload to YouTube.

Get the dealer to get the car on a hoist there is a plastic cover under the driver side floor this can be removed the fuel lines run inside a channel there is some cutouts where foam or nylon ties can be used to restrict the nylon fuel lines and stop the buzz / vibration. Dealers should know of this fix it should've been sorted in the factory. I also had the previous R it didn't have this buzz obviously it doesn't affect all cars but it is annoying if present. As you mentioned yes it's not metallic but faint buzzing is the correct description. It took me 3 visits to the dealer to convince them where the noise was coming from, yes more noticeable as the engine heats up maybe the nylon lines move slightly. I could even replicate the buzz in neutral occasionally around 2400/2500 rpm. Anyways I can assure you it can be fixed I've done over 10000km and no more rattles or buzzes.

Will do thanks. Is the buzzing related to this issue sound likes it's obviously coming from the floor area? Haven't noticed that, more like it's coming form the dash but might duck my head down there and see if it's coming from lower down.

I don’t think so. The knee airbag thing was just something loose - didn’t matter what the throttle was doing it was more about the road surface. Smooth was okay, course made it constantly rattle

                    • Love this car, but a couple things **** me.

                      - after pulling out from parking, and the first time I use the indicator the track playing on the media card will go back to the start, as if I have hit the back arrow on the steering wheel.

                      - similar deal, when I pull out, accelerate to about 15km and the car lurches and stops accelerating with a warning that ‘the ACC is not active’

                      - also, sometimes when start the car, the track from the Sd card will play, but you can’t turn it up. Stop, start, pause skip does nothing. Have to go back out and select sd card again before the track will play.

While I’m here, can anyone recommend a Velcro tape to mount the rear rego plate, and anyway to remove the adhesive padding that is behind the plate?

By way of update: the shop I parked out front of had CCTV, they saw the perp and it was a delivery driver of the pizza shop next door; he gave them his details to pass to me, and he said “are you the Holden or the Golf?” [emoji23]

Anyway, she’s in for repair on Monday, no excess and no damage to my no claim discount (Budget Direct were a dream to deal with, surprisingly!).

Anyway, some of you kids were talking about a safety message. Is this the one you mean? It’s either just started showing, or I haven’t noticed it ‘til now!

Agree, the car gets better by the kilometre. Just cracked 1000km and suddenly, everything has fallen into place. It’s punchier, the gearshift and clutch are now silky smooth (1st to 2nd was a clunky nightmare early on).... still a thirsty girl though.

                          1. Haven’t played music in it yet, I’m still loving the engine noise (and fake noise lol)
                          2. Manual doesn’t do that, guessing yours is DSG? Have you got ACC activated? That would bug me too, hope you get it sorted!
                          3. No help, sorry.....

That's the one. I'm trying to work out why it shows sometimes and not other times. Possibly not putting my seat belt on before starting?

It's a safety message from the nanny's at VW comes on every 2nd or 3rd time you start the car

You can get rid of it with obd11 (next thing to do on my list)

I see all the fingerprints on the screen i keep a microfiber cloth in the cubby ahead of the shifter it's a never ending battle tho

I think it’s Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. It’s just started doing it after I’ve started plugging my phone in —- edit: oops this was a response to onefinger, didn’t see your response Kachingg! Good to know! If it starts annoying me I’ll get it wiped lol

And yeah the fingerprints. The shame, the shame! It’s from the sat nav, I use apple maps for actual directions, but the nav I leave on - I find it so handy to have the maps up there as I’m driving, in case I need a sneaky shortcut/rat run.
