That's the reason which settled it for me. I may have got the 19 silvers if the headlight holder was still chrome!

Normally I'm all for black headlight surrounds - they look better on most cars... and they still look fine on the R. However, the headlight holder is a work of art on the MK6 Golf Xenons - so much so that they DRL light is too small and therefore can't be used... a rare example of form over function for VW! Hiding this form by making it black is a shame...

I'm right with you there. I can't say I love the look of the Xenon housing from a distance, but up close it's a great-looking piece of tech. I'd have it in silver too.

In black, the housing/binnacle doesn't really stand out, and could pass as a somewhat standard projector setup (no offence intended to those with cars so-equipped - it still looks the goods). But in silver, those projector cowls and scoops are a real styling highlight IMO.

Yep exactly... the black just hides the stand-out styling therefore making it look just like any other projector headlights... that's great if that's what you want, but it wasn't what I wanted. It'd be like buying a black Ferrari! Why hide the styling on a car like that?!

Firstly Corey i am with you on this but to be fair to the folk that like the black their view of styling is macro rather than micro.. the tie in with the bumper and front ventilation is the style they are looking for.

Yeah - I can certainly see that point of view too... but then again, almost all cars have black ventilation

I wanted 19s with the silver highlights as I reckon the silver goes very well with rising blue.

However after having the black for a while now, I'm lovin' it. It's just another special highlight that only an R has.

I agree everyone has different preferences with the silver or black combo, for me it was black from day one, mainly due to it giving the car a more aggressive frontal look imo and combined with me adding the black VW badge it finishes it all off nicely.
