MK6 GTI - Rattle upon acceleration - Resolved via TPI: 2021062/7

My name got taken down for it 29th of August and the guys told me they have no ETA from VW Germany yet and that they placed an order on a heap of them few weeks before I came in so yeah not looking pretty at this stage.

After 16 mths of this irritating sound, I am rapt there's such a simple fix.
Mine has definitely got more pronounced over the last few months, so after reading your reply, I have gone from
patiently waiting to impatiently waiting for that phone call now

At the time of my call they were expecting them this month...oh well hope it won't be as long a wait as a Polo GTI is?

Well... it would normally take about 2 or so weeks to come into stock anyway.
But lets say that everyone overseas is just as eager as you guys are, then it's likely that the part is out of stock even in Germany and a new batch needs to be made

What surprises me is why VW is still sending out GTIs without the clip fitted at the factory? Mine was manufactured in June 2011 and it has the rattle.

Didn't the original TSB come out back at the end of 2010 ???

It's only recent revisions of the TSB that even discussed the clip. The first several were no action, and then discussing temporary fitment of a wheel wait for testing purposes. So not really surprising at all that there are not yet any cars in the country which shipped from the factory with the clip fitted.

to those in Perth, I just booked ahead at Osborne Park VW for my 15kkm service and they've ordered the clip for me without even needing to confirm the rattle exists. Will be good to hear the end of that noise, it's got significantly worse in the 6 months I've had the car.

When I called the dealer about the rattle, they were surprised my car was still affected by the rattle - apparently they checked my VIN number and it is not within the range of VIN numbers affected according to the TSB (ie mine is newer than the VIN range on the TSB). They went ahead and ordered the clip for me anyway.

I took delivery of my GTi (MY12) last week, and noticed this rattle straight away.

Called my dealer, they are aware of the issue and the fix, and asked me to take the car in later this week for a test drive with one of the technicians there. They were surprised that I hear it in a MY12 - they thought the problem should have been fixed at the factory before the MY12 model run started.

Has anyone else experienced this rattle in a MY12 Golf GTi?

AAARGHH!!! I was booked in for clip installation yesterday (pre-booked over 1 month ago, waiting for loan car availability...), dropped my GTI off at 7:30am, drove away in a loan car. Recieved a call at mid-day stating that VW had put a hold on this part and it is no longer available. Apparently VW are working on a different fix for this issue now, and will notify me when something is available...? Returned the loan car and drove away unhappy! The rattle is even more annoying now. Complete waste of time re-arranging my day.

I was only speaking to Barloworld on Monday arvo to see if my clip had arrived yet and all they said was still
waiting for them to come in, maybe they didn't know this latest news?

sounds a bit suss? I doubt VWA will find a cheaper fix than using a clip....
