TPI means Technical Product Information.

Ask them to look at TPI: 2021062/6

If they won't help, go to another dealer

I just came from VW Glen Waverley to take a tech for a test drive. He heard the rattle. They have no clips in stock, apparently a 3 - 4 week wait from Germany.

So my GTI is booked in for the 22nd of September.

The tech I had was very interested as to how I knew about the fix, I informed him about the 70 page thread right here and told him there were many others exactly the same online. He was kind of surprised. He also wanted to know why I was asked to come down for a test drive when it's already a known issue? Seems interesting...

I have decided to go with them also, my dealership seem in the dark about this still.
Phoned them this afternoon, spoke to service dept, no need to come down for test drive first, told they had ordered 100
clips from Germany and only 6 arrived, I am on waiting list also.

Got a courtesy call within 15 mins to say more arriving hopefully in 3-4 weeks, and they will phone me once they arrive.
Now that's what I call great customer service, really helpful service tech also

I've just come back from surtherland Vw and a guy who looked like a service advisor said it's basically all b******t created by someone in America and that there is no official fix for it. I've mentioned tpi and he kept saying the number doesn't even exist and it's some random number made by some American guy. I've then shown him the picture of the clip and where it's to be installed at on pg83 etc and then he went on to say he tried the weight on a couple of gtis and didn't do anything. He says it's normal operation so I asked for a tsb but was once again told there is no such document and that what's given in service tax invoice is it. I only recently bought my car from them and I thought it would be quicker to get the problem resolved there - I tried to talk to a tech at ccc and he was telling me only 50 clips have come into the country and to call back after October. Where do u guys get it fixed??

I just called Barloworld Mascot to try and book in to get this fixed. They're booked pretty solid - earliest i could get was 14th Sept!

I explained the situation, she seemed to know what i was talkin about, and said it would be covered under warranty.

Good idea for you to go elsewhere by the sounds of it, hopefully they will miss out on some warranty $ with that sort of
attitude. Did you give him the updated TPI number btw?
My dealership service manager also confirmed the number had been superseded, then went on to say he knew nothing
about this fix, so rather than discuss it any further, I just let my fingers do the walking, no problems.
Wont be any help to you though cause I am in Melbourne, sorry
Hope to be noise free FINALLY next month after 15 mths.

I'm booked in to reproduce the noise from the waste gate tomorrow morning. They tried to deny there was a fix available. They were aware of the issue though. So I mentioned the TPI and they have confirmed. I just need to show the the noise and they will arrange fix they said. Will update as progresses.

Yeah I had my mobile phone with the browser open on that page with big pictures of clip and TPI report and showed him all with explanations of where the clip goes on etc but he only replied by saying it's all b*** and said not to trust information online. He wouldn't even pretend to move his hands while he was standing right in front of a computer. Maybe I was fobbed off... and I am not a good talker to further the conversation when the other person just shuts it in my face several times. Is anyone else in Sydney getting it fixed at dealerships where they didn't buy the car from? Good luck with the fix, GTI mk6. I'd love to hear the car accelerating without that noise as well.

I also had a tech riding in my car to confirm it on day 1 and as soon as we got out on the road and going up hills a couple of times he said he is well aware of it but there is no official fix for it and VWA would contact customers if or when the fix becomes available. He told me then I was not the first one to enquire about it. Which dealership did you go to if you don't mind me asking. Thanks.

Went into Barloworld Glen Waverly on Saturday. All I said to the service guys was I've got a rattle to report, didn't manage to go any further until one of the guys started laughing and said 'ahh yes the rattle' lol. Apparently they have ordered a bucket load of the clips and Germany still hasn't given them an ETA for arrival. I've been booked for one and will get a call once they arrive.

Bpgti - I bought at Paul Wakeling at Campbelltown but my local dealer is Southern Classic Cars in Wollongong. I use SCC as they are my local dealer.
