Any others for my other questions?

One more thing as well, I haven't read anything about it but is there any variable cam timing? I'm thinking not as haven't seen it mentioned in the tuning section either.

    • You'll find more information if you research EA888 and EA113.
EA888 is the engine series in the MK6 GTI. EA113 is the engine series in the MK5 GTI and MK6 Golf R (as well as Audi S3).

The EA888 is a total new design and not a progression of the EA113.
Additionally, there are internal differences between the EA113 used in the K03 turbo based engines (MK5 GTI) and K04 turbo based engines (MK6 R and S3).

In relation to the variable cam timing, some of the Audi versions of the EA888 have what they call "Valve Lift" which gives 350Nm instead of 280Nm from the non valve-lift versions. I'm not sure if that is the type of thing you're asking about though.

        Cheers for that.

Is the valve lift variable, in that it is tuneable? I ask as there where significant gains to be had with the cam timing in the subarus.

Edit: According to wiki it has variable intake cam adjustment - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...petrol_engines
A question for the tuning section then.....

I've searched here & google to no avail. What build dates define MY10, MY11, MY11.5 & MY12 for the Golf R?

Might be best to ask that question on an Audi forum, as the Golfs don't have the variable lift EA888.

                  • Why didn't they implement the SMS option on the RCD510 as mentioned in the manual. Would be great.

Less distracting than having messages show on the small iPhone screen !

Also wish it had voice control as described in the manual. Even the wife's little Fiesta has it !

                    • Yeah, it would be awesome if you could read SMS messages on the MFI, perhaps restricted to under a certain speed. Can't be any more dangerous than scrolling through the phonebook while driving

                      • Less dangerous than scrolling through 4,000 songs as well

The function is possible as it is in the manual. Clearly disabled for AU ?

                        • With any luck someone will stuble across a VCDS setting that enables it then

                          • The RCD510 and RNS510 support it. I'm pretty sure it's the bluetooth module which determines whether it can be done or not, but the "MY11 Bluetooth" (9ZB) option which they introduced for $550, and is now free, doesn't support it.

Having said that, the iPhone doesn't support rSAP, so I'm not sure that the iPhone supported SMS via bluetooth even for the bluetooth modules that did support that function.... but maybe someone who has one of the old "Premium bluetooth kits" which does support SMS can way in on that..... although, I'm sure it's covered in the correct area of the forums....

                            • One thing I've noticed in the R.... with the DSG gearbox, if you manually go down a gear with the brakes on - it snaps down a gear almost instantly. If you manually go down a gear while accelerating, it takes like half a second longer to think about it. If you mash the fast pedal all the way to the switch to make it change down a gear - it's almost instant.

                              • Not seeing this with our DSG on our MY12 R

Manual changes are immediate under braking or acceleration

Also finding the D mode has much better shift points versus our GTI
