Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

That might be partially because you don't need to use S as often due to the extra power, D is actually not as lazy. Dunno if that makes any sense hehe

Each to their own hey! What I do find interesting is when you get 5 stock cars with similar km's and run them up on the dyno at the same time. The differences are amazing. What part is down to run in and what part is luck of the draw is another story.

A lot of it comes down to the fact most of the R drivers only recently got their car adn they are fanging it around after having waited 6 months.
If you keep the revs down, change at 2000-2500RPM and follow the pump+coast you could probably get to the 8.7's

But realistically, no one bought the golf for it's fuel economy figures or you would have got a *insert brand* diesel
I certainly didn't buy it for econonmy and since the fuel use is similar to my previous ride (MPS6 avg 13L/100km) I'm cool with what my R is drinking Also I've been hard on the throttle from day 1 when in full operating temp on all my cars and never had a problem, however the wife's Jetta TFSI (4yrs old) was driven by her mainly and really not hard enough, now uses about 1.0-1.5L of oil every 7500km!

talking about reverse tail light.... you could hardly call it 'light'. or is it just the Black that has a problem.

There's a reverse light? For all I can see at night I get the feeling there's a little German Oompa Loompa who pops his head out from under the rear badge holding a candle light. If it's a windy night you can forget it.

so this has stirred me into action. I allowed my son to sit in my R for the first time just now (a big step for me) and asked him to place car in reverse. I wasn't standing directly behind the car, I've learned over the years that there is no such thing as an 'accident', anyway, the reverse light is not white but a faded yellow, barely visible.

                        • It's a problem that isn't limited to the R, and is mainly due to only having one reverse light. It's a pain, only made somewhat better with the RVC.

                          • Yeah - I have no idea how much light (or lack of light) is at the back of the R, because my R has the RVC, and the RVC has NIGHT VISION!

Even with the RVC, it's a hassle reversing up a long tight driveway at night (mate's place) and trying to judge the bushes on the driver's side.
