So on the way home from work today (usually ~14km) I took the 55km route! lol
I spent a decent amount of time playing around with the throttle in the various DSG modes.
I've been becoming familiar with the D mode, with it's many "moods", to the amount of throttle that you can apply before you kick down a gear or two.
What I like about the M mode is that it doesn't matter HOW QUICKLY you push the pedal to 100% throttle, as long as you don't go past the resistance point at the 100% throttle position, you won't hit the physical kick down switch. It makes me wonder, in all the complaints about the DSG and how you can't accelerate without it kicking down and all that, whether most people actually know that there is a physical kick down switch BEYOND the position of 100% / WOT. Anyway - it makes it quite enjoyable once you realise where 100% is and find that resistance position, as you can then do torquey 80 to 100 acceleration in 5th, rather than powery 80 to 100 acceleration in 3rd which automatically occurs if you hit the kickdown button.
Also, after comments that Dave_R made a while back, I tried S mode whilst the cruise control was active. Doing 80km/h along a major 80km/h road, it was extremely amusing how THE MOMENT you touch the accelerator it drops a gear immediately. But that's just from the lightest of touches. Any more than a light touch and it drops two or three, depending on how far you push the accelerator... awesome
so this has stirred me into action. I allowed my son to sit in my R for the first time just now (a big step for me) and asked him to place car in reverse. I wasn't standing directly behind the car, I've learned over the years that there is no such thing as an 'accident', anyway, the reverse light is not white but a faded yellow, barely visible.
..........so no one knows what bulb it uses? i tried looking at the manual but nothing...couldnt find ****
Just got back from a midnight run in the R and decided to pull some 0-100.
Ambient temp 19c, half a tank of juice.
0-100 4.26 seconds.....my best yet!
Very pleased
UNREAL dude, fantastic time!
Getting my R tomorrow, then straight to the paint shop to get the 19"s refinished in Metallic Gunmetal. Will post pictures as soon as I get it back at the end of the week.
Re doing a 1/4 mile time...im itching to do it, just got to get down to the street drags at some stage, but the ultra stick surface of a launch pad scares me to what it could do to my driveline.

Personally I don't hold much faith in the gtechs as I've seen varying results of up to 0.7 seconds down the qtr with the unit in the car at the same time while running the qtr mile down the track (not me but others).
I plan on going down the track again sometime soon and a mate of mine does have a gtech type device so I might get a hold of it to do some comparisons.
I doubt your drive train will fall out, just give it a go!!!
