Question to R Owners, the fuel effeciency of the R has been touted as one of the big plusses but I am yet to hear any here who have hit those 8.7 /100 figures unless on the highway ( happy if anyone chips in with an update ) so my questions is 2 fold.

1. Now you have had your R for a while are the fuel figures more consistent
2. Those who have chipped thier R have they found improvement ( or not)

Mine is stock and so far my average is 10.9/100. Has been mainly urban driving and still TRYING to keep revs under 4500. Current odo reading is 999 kms.

I wonder whether Australia is still using that old method which doesn't take into account wind resistance, and things like running the aircon etc?! Anyway.

Australian ADR 81/02 consuption data is taken directly from European ECE R101 Test Reports so i guess the answer is no.

You guys are getting pretty good consumption out of your R's.

I have an MY10 S3 Sportback (same car i guess) in manual and the best I can get on my 20 minute commute to work (12.2km's) is 11.0.

I've only had the car about 6 weeks but as others have said, i don't care about consumption.
I bought my S3 to enjoy it and i love to heal and toe as I slow down and accerate through the rev range as I take off.
Why else did we buy these cars!

Can't wait for a remap, an intake so I can get more of that great induction noise and for Sandown next month!

I can't imagine that you'll get anywhere near in the manual.
In D, the shift points with light acceleration are about:
2nd 15km/h
3rd 25km/h
4th 37km/h
5th 45km/h
6th 54km/h

You're 100% right.
i came from an A3 2.0T DSG and I must say that i do miss that gearbox a lot, but am thoroughly enjoying being back in a manual.

i was told by the Dealer that we should be giving the R's a squirt or two from day one. Helps in the long run not to baby them...

I've done 2700km in mine in 5 weeks and the consumption has been improving. The first tank average was above 20l/100km but boy did I enjoy it. Average is now down to 11.7 and I drive from St Ives to Nth Syd each day for work. In D staying with the traffic with the occasional squirt for fun the computer says I can get sub 9.0 on that trip. On my last tank I put in 48l for a distance of 509km so the computer may be a bit optimistic. I'm going to the outlaws who live in Moss Vegas this weekend so will be able to see how it goes on a longish trip. Still stock as a rock at the moment but have an EVOMS CAI on its way .

If I go on a longer trip, so from The Hills Shire out to Mona Vale to Sydney Automotive Workshop. Performance & Tuning for Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Skoda, BMW and Mercedes | European Autotech Sydney to get my car flashed, then I've actually been able to get the 8.7L/100km, exactly!. This was via Pennant Hills Rd, The Comenarra Parkway (which turns into Yanko Rd) to Ryde Rd (which turns into Mona Vale Rd).

I would have cut across Turrumarra via Burns rd St Ives, was this a Satnav direction?

Nope, my direction. It was the fact that if you go that via Turramarra, you have to turn off at Fox Valley Rd, which means you miss out on all the great hills and corners after that on Comenarra and Yanko. You've then got lots more traffic lights... and it's no quicker (not in the middle of the day anyway).

Well the chip upgrades have multiple values, performance is a big one, however many have indicated that fuel efficiency is generally much better as well. Now even though everyone is seeing their new toys through rose coloured glasses at the moment it is still of interest if these very frugal yet powerful cars are still the best of both worlds or is it just a firfy.. so I care

So many mixed opinions on the 'run in period' so been doing what i did with the WRX when i bought that new and never had any issue with it. I've still been giving in the odd squirt though, have just been using the paddles to shift around the 4500 mark.

Now i'm at the 1000 kms mark i wont be holding back..
