I have the car now. What a pleasure it is. Coming from a 118TSI Golf Wagon the power difference is fantastic. For day to day fuel efficient driving though there is a lot to be said for the twin charger. The R is overly docile when off boost.
The price was great. $50k drive away for a Rising Blue, DSG and leather interior. There was also a Grey one with DSG, satnav and reverse cam for $49500 but I decided to go with the colour I preferred. Different dealers for each cars.
I was told by numerous dealers that that pricing was below cost and that they couldn't work out how they were being sold so cheap (even including the fact that there is a driveaway deal on them at the moment that covers all the onroad costs). I can only assume that the particular dealers were willing to take the loss to move the stock.
There is still quite a few new R's out there(and some demos). Options are very limited though. There are no cars at all with ACC, here in QLD there were only two with satnav and rev cam. Several cars with leather as the only option and quite a number of cars that were just stock standard. I only heard of one that had 19's, not that I wanted those.
Now's the time to buy though if you want one and are happy to live with the fact that it will be out dated by the VII. For the huge money saving I certainly am.

Yah it will feel more docile because of the larger turbo and more weight of the AWD
Once you tune it and learn how to drive it that docile feel disappears

I always thought the distance sensors were just annoying and rarely used them.
However, saved my rear bumper today (yes SF, the multicoloured one).
I'm concerned that I'm already ignoring them. I have to reverse into a narrow carport so they are screaming at me from all corners so I don't pay attention anymore, just watch where I'm going.
This thread has gone a bit quiet.. had the roof wrapped today, given Rising Blue is the most awesome colour in the range everyone wants one so I needed to bling mine up a bit, but also provides an extra 50kwatw and 90nm = 0-100 4.7s
Nice one ^ i've also been thinking of doing the gloss black vinyl on my roof as well. Im yet to see one in person to see how it looks though. Did Carbon Demon do it? They quoted me $330 to do it.
No , had Chris from COMPLETE SURFACE SYSTEMS | do it, came to my place to do it, he was stoked that I wanted Gloss black as he was getting tired of doing matte and carbon fiber finish. He is a perfectionist, took him 6 hours over 2 days to do it.. looks OEM and just wont settle till it is almost perfect.. very happy with the finish

Thanks guys, was a tad worried as I could not find pictures of an RB with a Gloss Black roof wrap, plenty of whites around but not the blue.. Took the risk and I am pleased with the outcome. Will be interesting to see if the Gloss black takes off
