Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

One of the most annoying things on the golf is the disparity between D and S on the DSG.

D is quite possibly "Docile" instead of "Drive"
"S" is too "stupid" for daily drives.. even for the spirited driver.... 60km/h and I have to hope it gets into third...let alone 4th etc etc....

a middle ground "M" (or for quirkyness sake,we could have it "G" for generic, thus completing the trifecta of D S G) would be nice.... can't be that hard to include a factory fitted button to alter the shift points on the car could it???

    • A programmable shift point setting (G) would be a great idea, I like it

          Not really. Still fixed parameters.

I find the S and D modes spot on in our R

          Far better than our GTI

Must have got a good one

Mechatronics, but was great, in terms of shift points, prior

Made the observation not long after I picked up the car

Many folk think the same about the R.. CM is the only one that is perfect in every way

Interesting as anyone I have talked to with a build after June 2011 feels the same

                    About 20 owners so far.

My R is nowhere near perfect in many areas.

Panel fit on all Golfs is average

                    DSG tech still weak

                    Climatronic poor

                    Stock audio rubbish

                    List goes on

Oh and it is CW, a terrible failing (but great when it comes to panel repairs)

                    • Hard to tell whether you like your car or not..

Anyway I just stumbled onto this, not sure if it has come up before

                      • I still own it

                        Wouldn't if I didn't like it, overall.

The R, like my previous GTI, is good as a jack of all trades, master of none

I'm just not one for rose colored glasses (or RB glasses)

I always had the impression that your black Forester XT had the 4EAT. Did you get it replaced with the 5 speed from the Liberty?
