Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • We are revising our next purchases (forced to)

The C63 that was lined up has been sold to another buyer (SF - yes, he is a twat but he will be leaving soon anyway, thank god)

I'm actually now looking at moving the R onto the Merc and buying a Swift Sport manual as a fun car. Wife loves them (two Swifts in the family, not Sports though)

I considered the MX5 and the Toybaru but they just don't have that fun factor to them.

A year or two left in the R so time for more review yet.

      • Brimmers - you have a DSG R - Lucas has a manual

Big difference (esp when you read how Lucas recorded the time)

Apologies - saw what you quoted and assumed.

            Are you stock ?

If so, yes, P3 is ****ting itself

If Stage 1, there are other DSG Stage 1's that have shown that on a P3 with LC used.

4.25 is pretty damn quick - id never do anywhere near that in a manual unfortunately. The real killer for the manuals is that 2nd gear only goes to about 95kph so you need to tap 3rd gear to hit 100kph.

Most DSG's with stage 1 tunes seem to get around the 4.2 - 4.5 range for 0-100kph.

                Stage 2 no LC

Just gotta hope the DSG stays together.

About where it should be based on other posts.

Thing is, Stage 1s are pretty close across tunes but beyond that, things change too much to be consistent for comparisons.

Get it down the 1/4 and get a true result

Pleased to say that the Golf R was able to beat it each time - although not by much. The Golf pulled away very slowly from it. It was stock as far as i could tell, although they have 225kw and 400 odd nm from the factory with their tuned up 2.5L turbo engine and do 0-100kph in under 5 seconds.

                    Good fun.
My dad's STI pulls away from my R, not by much though. But it was a rolling start.

Oh I'm the same, the same way I feel about the P3 0-100 time, all a bit pointless

+1. Always wanted the STI since it debuted, but when I finally had the money, it just wasn't "nice" enough.

                          • Lucas, let me know your best time when you get around to timing it. I'm in the mid to low 5's, but I won't try timing again until I get my intake. Then I'm going to head to the drags, as well as dyno, just to have some figures. An intake is all I need to complete my mods. (Yes, I know, people keep saying I won't stop modding, but I really will!)

Another day, another report on Volkswagen's all-new Golf R, due for a pre-Geneva unveiling in the coming days.

While the new GTI hot hatch is expected to deliver around 162kW, talk in recent months suggests the new R will surge through the 200kW barrier with a circa-215kW output, and 380Nm of torque.
