Hi Nick, don't notice any hissing from mine and in the 40 ish degree days we had in Perth recently the temp difference between 25 or 18 was significantly noticably. Also when on moderate days you can notice the temp changes and on lowest fan setting no noises except the fan motor. I'd say you may have a problem, aside from that you enjoying the R? I still love mine after 2 and bit years and 40,000 kms
Cheers
Chris
Hey Chris, thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I'll get it checked.
Yup, very happy with the R. No regrets at all moving from the WRX
A few qualifications about my experience with AC on my GTI and on my R
Neither car had good climate control - set at a temperature, the climate control would always over cool requiring constant adjustment. (Plenty of posts on many forums lists the same)
The gradient between temperatures, for example 18 and 24 wasn't that good. On very hot days, worse.
So called "hissing" if its the sound I'm thinking of, was on both my cars from new and still is on the R. It's normal AFAIK.
By all means get it checked but the VW system has its quirks.

Well its been a looong time since I posted in here. I have a 2010 R with DSG auto. Anyway I was on the way back from the supermarket and got sucked into a traffic light GP vs a Subaru B4. Yeah yeah shouldn't be doing it, but it was a quiet road with no other traffic and the guy was askin for it. Anyway I think he was quite shocked when I overtook him before he kept going and I slowed to kinda keep within the speed limits What a stock B4 anyway? Around 6.4secs 0-100??
Still haven't had a chance to go stage 1 APR yet. Family is no1 priority so any spare cash doesn't go to the car at the moment. To those guys with DGS autos, do you find sport mode quicker or just using manual shift off the stick and red lining each gear. I dunno I feel like manual shifting seems quicker but you would think sport mode would be. It justs seems to get away better in manual mode initially. Anyway my 2 cents worth.
DSG is quicker, also holds the gear through to redline.. appreciate the priorities but the stage 1 tune uplift would have the B4 wondering where you went

B4 handles better and more urgent off the mark than a DSG R
Sports mode to me has always seemed more responsive off the mark than manual mode and the torque limiters seem to handle things better in Sports as well
I drive in Sports mode quite a lot. The R loves it

CHeers, yeah I know DSG is quicker but manual shifting the DSG using the stick (IE push it across to the left and then up or down) vs the DSG just in sports mode which is quicker. the sports mode seems like more of a slug off the line than manual mode to me.
yeah I need to hide some cash and do stage 1 on my day off while the MRS is at work LOL!

Yeah I am hesitant to use launch control too much to preserve the DSG box. How much punishment can it take using LC? SPorts mode is fun but its always revving its tits off which can get tiresome esp when you have to keep changing back to normal DSG mode when cruising on the speed limit or do you just leave it in sport the whole time?? I prefer manual mode so I can control my own revs and not have to keep switching from sport to normal But I guess when you think about it the computer would be quicker changing gears but the initial launch unless you use LC seems slower to me in sports mode.
Yeah the guy in the B4 got the jump off the line but then I reeled him in pretty quick before having to back off.
Hahha punch off the line, well thats where an electric car comes into the equation This is sure to raise a few eyebrows and debate esp amongst the car purists and hard core VW fans. Would seriously consider an upgrade to something like this in 3 years time if its available, but the practicalities of charging times, new batterys and range could be a problem. Reading the reviews tho the top end model s seems like a cracker. 0-100 in 4.4, full instant torque all the way to the redline and very good handing given its weight due to the low battery location and design. Claimed drag coefficient of an excellent .24 as well. Really nice looking car too. Almost like a cross between a Maserati and Aston Martin mhmmmmmmmm! lol
