Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • My observation of late is if I drop the hammer especially in S mode the amount of smokey exhaust is enough to blind the car behind me. WTF is with the amount of smoke that spews from the exhaust under heavy acceleration

            • The R only has one reversing light even though both light assemblies have reversing lenses, today I noticed a sirocco reversing and both lights lit up for reverse? why the difference

The second light is actually the rear fog-lamp isn't it?

                      • mine does it too.. and it's standard.

                        Maybe PCV blowby?
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

                          Do the turbo's "coke up"?

Seems they store soot when cruising then dump a heap of soot under load.

If it's just the engine running rich under load, I'm happy. Rather that vs a lean AFR mix.

This! All the Japanese cars run super-rich under WOT, but it's less common in the Euros, and rarer still when tuned. Still, short of being a bit down on peak power, there's nothing wrong with running a bit rich. The excess fuel lowers the combustion temps inside the cylinders.

My tune is running a slight bit richer than is optimal for peak performance.

But I don't mind that. I'm sometimes in area where I can't guarantee good fuel and would prefer to be a few kw down on power for that sake than anything else.

Most tuned R's and indeed stock ones do give a little belch of smoke.

                              • A bit of the smoke under WOT is also from carbon build up which the Ea113's are famous for.
