Sometimes the oil blowby will collect somewhere in your inlet tract and then get burnt off when you open things up but it will only put out a cloud of smoke a couple of times and then the oil is gone.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Black/grey smoke I don't mind but blue smoke makes me worry
As I said earlier, my GTI used to blow black/grey smoke under hard acceleration (dumping fuel) but my R has never done it.8VSS2L/16 E9E9 XG MP SPP1 4ZD 6XK CSC5P with an extra free 10kW

Done 800km so far in the manual R. Can't find this being mentioned but has anyone noticed over-revving in 1st gear?
After I take the foot of the gas (completely) and engage the clutch to change up to 2nd, the engine over-revvs and go up by about 1500-2000 rpm. Only happens occassionally and doesn't seem to correlate with the speed or acceleration at the time. It has never happened in other gears.
Also I have noticed a bit of a clunk in the back wheels or exhaust maybe when slowing down to a standstill, only happens in those last few metres especially at low speeds.
Any thoughts?

^ no idea on the clunking noise, but id say the over revving issue is to do with the electric throttle (drive by wire) which has an annoying delay. So when you take your foot off the accellerator to engage the clutch, the delay associated with the throttle is still reading that you have the throttle applied - hence the breif revving when you press on the clutch.
This drove me insane when i first got my car, but i got a Sprintbooster (which reduces the delay in the electric throttle) and it has helped alot (hasnt gone away completely, but reduced significantly).

You old pervert. Unfortunately the entrails went up in smoke so no piccy for you. But if it helps, the smoke trail told me that i was very handsome as evidenced by this piccy of me on the outside dunny.
