Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

And the gradation between different temperature settings feels non-existent. 25 degrees feels just as cold as 18 degrees. I normally set the AC to a higher temperature (24-25 degrees) but it's still freezing.

    Anyone else experiencing this?
Hi Nick, don't notice any hissing from mine and in the 40 ish degree days we had in Perth recently the temp difference between 25 or 18 was significantly noticably. Also when on moderate days you can notice the temp changes and on lowest fan setting no noises except the fan motor. I'd say you may have a problem, aside from that you enjoying the R? I still love mine after 2 and bit years and 40,000 kms

It's an observation, not a complaint. I haven't experienced this AC hissing noise in previous cars, and interested to hear some constructive feedback from others if they are experiencing something similar. Isn't that the point of this thread?

Thanks for your helpful reply. I'll check it out and mention it when the car goes in for service.

        • Speaking of AC, I noticed today when trying to look around a truck (moved head closer to window) that the AC doesn't cool down the car, as I immediately felt warmer. Only when the air is hitting me do I feel cool. Which explains why when I turn it off the car feels hot so quickly. Not sure if that's a problem or not.

Does boost get pulled down in hot weather ?

I know power will be down due to hot air but what about boost ?

Edit - never mind, it does, 49C has an impact

            All good.

Hope they didn't leave it idling with the air on for a few hours

Engine cold so don't see how unless yours is magical ?

Edit - so nice to be back to "normal" temps. Car happier.

Why not? My wife idled our Nissan with AC on for 7 hours when the roads North & South of her were closed due to bushfires. It used 9 litres of fuel IIRC. Better than her & the 2 kids getting heat stroke.

Agree about it dealing with heat stroke but generally "bad" for a car to DIY idling for hours

Sometimes you gave no options but parked at a dealers, no thanks.

No magic here, if it was 49c ambient, mine would be like a sauna inside.

I did say "cool", not cool

All relative, but yep, did surprise me it wasn't much much hotter inside.

Have a photo of the MFD showing 49 C (might be a few degrees off but have always found it pretty spot on)

Wife's car showed 53C on her in-car display as she drove on Windsor Road, but it is a Ford so who knows
