Plus, the resolution of the RCD510 display is only 400 x 240 pixels, which is too low for DVD/TV/Video playback. The RNS510 display is 800 x 480 which is fine for DVD/TV/Video playback.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

That's awesome!
Mine has factory fitted RCD510 with camera but haven't worried about hooking up video, i'd get the RNS510 first and as corey mentioned the res is better.

I use the Golf Wagon 77TDI's in my fleet, they have a feature which I'm wondering is available in the R i'm about to lay my eager hands on, that is when you leave the car and lock in remotely the windows roll up and when you unlock and hold the button down the doors unlock and the windows go down about a third????.... It's handy... Especially on a hot day, just before jumping in, release the steam! Also good when leaving car in a hurry, don't need to press buttons/knobs inside, just walk away and hold button down.
This is pretty common on euro cars. Have had this feature on Renault, Alfa and Peugeot.

Thanks boys, I thought that would be the case.
How big of a job is it changing the unit? Is it as simple as removing the old and adding the new??
Wouldn't mind changing the unit but won't bother if it requires a lot of work.

Thanks Simon, appreciate the thought - Hopefully, the installation isn’t too much of an issue and I can take you up on the offer
Has your car landed yet? Can’t remember whether you were on the Morning Camilla or not??
I ended up contacting Craig from Autografika (nice bloke) and will hopefully organise the Venturshield in the next couple of weeks. He also mentioned that they’ll consider working on a weekend, which would be ideal when picking up on a weekend.
So close now!GOLF R Stage 2+

IIRC, somewhere in this forum states that if you lock your car with the sunroof open, it won't auto shut when it rains - in other words the rain sensors are only for the wipers. Is this right?| Golf R MY11 | DSG | 3 Doors | RB | Recaro | 19" Talladegas | ACC | Sunroof | BT | APR S1 | APR Carbonio | MillteK Sport CBE |

Correct, but if you have VCDS you can turn that feature on (also does the side windows).

Just FYI the Audi S3's sunroof could be closed [as could the windows] with the key fob.
However, for some inexplicable reason, from the "Facelift"[late 08] only the windows close-not the sunroof.
Nobody has been able to get to the bottom of this as to why.[I don't care-mine's pre-facelift]
Just hope the Golf R's not the same.....
