Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Perception is an interesting confounding factor given the paise GTI's get for their responsiveness and to deriding R's get for their laggyness...the R engine is pulling harder (granted the car is heavier) lower in the rev range...suggesting it would be less laggy. The curve doesn't demonstrate the time between pressing the throttle and torque though???
I say 'perception' 'cause relitively much more torque is happening at 2400 than 1700 in an R so it feels much better at 2400rpm and it is impossible to remember the feeling between cars well enough to avoid confusion.
Strictly speaking, again using the Oettinger graph, GTI [I]peak[I] torque doesn't arrive until 5000rpm, where as the rather contrived R plateu arrives around 2400rpm. Granted at 1700 the majority of GTI torque is available.
While I not yet a DSG convert (but open to the concept - sequential gear selection with no torque converter) so maybe I don't 'get it' but wouldn't you easily enough over-ride the fuel efficiency software programming by paddling down a gear or two while subtly accelerating?

Music selection is only available be choosing a folder (not by artist/genre etc). However, playlists should work (I haven't set any up yet) and you can play all files in subdirectories (e.g. multiple albums from a single artist).
It can be slow to display folders if there are a large number of them in the root directory.
However, I've got plenty of space available for music / podcasts etc.2010 Golf R Black DSG 5Dr MDI Fiscon Plus

Hey Fab, I forgot to ask what class/transfer speed is your SDHC? I'm just wondering if it's worth it to pay through my nose for the Sandisk ULTRA Class 10 30mb/s one?| Golf R MY11 | DSG | 3 Doors | RB | Recaro | 19" Talladegas | ACC | Sunroof | BT | APR S1 | APR Carbonio | MillteK Sport CBE |

What I'd like to know though, is does the SDHC class make any difference to how long the RCD/RNS510 takes to initialise the SDHC after initial insertion?

This youtube clip shows that it does take quite a while to read the SD Card.
YouTube - lahmes RCD510 im Golf R
So, 30 secs to read 16gb (which is how many songs?), is acceptable to me.
How quickly does the RNS510 read it?
Sorry I should learn to read thru to end of thread before postingGolf R MY 11.5 United Gray, 3 door, DSG, ACC, Free MDI, Bluetooth

I believe it only initializes once.
After that initial read it only takes a second to read even after turning off ignition.
Seems that way from the video.Golf R MY 11.5 United Gray, 3 door, DSG, ACC, Free MDI, Bluetooth

I spent about $40 on a 8GB 30mbps SDHC card to copy music from my PC to my RNS510, since it was much quicker than DVDs. I rarely play music straight off the card these days, but when I did with it ful, it never took more than 10-15 seconds to get going.
I have more music than I need, but it all organised pretty well so I can either listen to everything randomly, or I can choose what sort of music I want, or narrow it even further.
I also made a silent 5 second mp3 file that I can play, which gives me just enough time to turn Shuffle/Random/Mix on, to listen to everything in the subfolders.
My only gripe with Mix/Shuffle mode is that when you turn the car off and then back on (after some time passes), it forgets what songs you've already heard.

Some people aren't as into music as others, which is why there are varying opinions on whether you need your entire collection, or whether you need the Dynaudio etc etc.
