Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Was chatting to a bloke at work today with a MKV GTI with a stage 1 and asking about his experiences with the character of the car and most of the topics aligned with all the issues that have been outlined.. but an interesting observation was the heat build up in the cabin from the engine bay.. he said that he had put some heat shield over the exhaust which prolonged the period before it got warm.

Is this a common problem, is there a solution to it if so and does the R have better shielding..?

Yep... you definitely get heat build up in the cabin of the R. Wasn't a particularly warm day here in Sydney, but in late peak hour traffic tonight which was rolling along fairly well, it was still pretty warm in the cabin. I usually just tilt the sunroof to ventilate for a while and it's livable... (without resorting to A/C)

          • Still no videos for the milltek GTI exhaust, seem to either be not many reviews or dropping off in quality.

Have never really heard of heat build up in the cabin.. seem to be a lot of worries for owners on here.

            • Hi all,

Thank you so much for all the insights on the Golf R! I've been an avid follower of this forum for over 4 months now. Finally signed up!

Would anyone know if the Golf Rs in Aus come with puddle lamps beneath the side mirrors?

I saw a review of the R on a Singaporean blog and it has puddle lamps! IMHO they look awesome!

Yes, it was traffic which this bloke indicated the heat build up occurs... he also said that aircon sorts it out

                  • Aircon usually cools down the car, lol.

Hey mate. Specifications for the Australian models mention nothing of puddle lights (Prodigy, a puddle light is either a light under the door or the side mirror, that faces down, and illuminates the ground outside the car so that you don't get out and step into a puddle.. or other undesirable things ).

Generally looking at reviews in Singapore is a bad idea, because the car market is so different there. Currently the 3 door DSG R is $181,300 Singapore Dollars, which is about $140,000 Australian Dollars. Due to this, they often have added inclusions to help justify their prices over the much cheaper "local" cars.

                        Another win for the sunroof

LOL you're ****ting me a puddle light? Now I've heard it all!

                        • Yeah. They're not really a new feature. Been around for at least a decade on various higher end cars. I guess they're another one of these convenience features that are slowly trickling down. I figure since they already have electronics in the mirrors, it probably ads about $1 to the overall cost of the car

                          • Yeah I've seen websites/videos that teach you how to install them. I reckon they look awesome in the dark when you unlock your car!

Wow! For that price, I think they need to include another engine in the boot!

                              • Many thanks for your email.

With regards your questions the system we have designed is to be installed with the OE downpipe and catalyst assembly or the Milltek Sport downpipe and catalyst assembly, we would not be able to confirm fitment onto any other aftermarket downpipes.

The system comes in 2 versions, resonated (this meets the standards to receive TUV/EC approval) or non-resonated (gives approx 4DB increase over stock).

The system will be available in stock W/C 22/11/10.

                                Regards

                                Leigh Ravey
