Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I agree. I want it aggressive, they need to do something about the exhaust note.

agree, as well, if people want soft and civilised there is already the GTI, would be nice to have at least one Golf with a slightly harder edge to it. (standard from VW, so we don't have to worry about warranty issues)

The Scirocco was VWs effort at aggressive looks (failed IMO)

However, WJ was referring to civilized in terms of the better torque delivery, not looks.

By civilized I assumes he meant more capable with earlier delivery of torque

If you want aggressive looks you buy an ST or Megane. Golfs have never ever been aggressively styled (thank god)

Great review here between the Megane RS, Vauxhall VXR and Focus ST.

                    • I saw a few Focus ST at Bathurst last weekend ... nothing special to look at and a bit heavy. The Astra OPC is way to heavy for a hot-hatch - almost 200kgs heavier than MK6 Golf GTI and probably 300kgs heavier than forthcoming MK7 Golf GTI. Having said that ... I'm suprised that the Audi S3 (read MK7 Golf R) weighs in at 1445kgs in 5 door form. Volkswagen are saying that they anticipate the next MK7 Golf GTI to be about 100kgs lighter than the MK6 version ... so why is the Audi S3 (read MK7 Golf R) not about 100kgs lighter than the previous model?

                          Really?

                          Gangrene is horrid.

That is just the subtle evolution of the MkV/VI shape.

                          • I must admit - im not feeling the shape of the MK7 at this stage. I don't like the line through the headlights, nor the crease along the hatch, nor the fuel flap shape, nor the wheels.

I would like to have a good look at one in person.

I can cope with all of that, the detail I am definitely not sold on is the plastic strakes in the front dam around the fog light area.

Something that may not be an issue on the R assuming they go for something like the current R's different front dam.
