Tough question really.. all of them are good options for performance and value for money. You will pay more for the S3 but the R will be basically the same for less money. GTI is a rock solid BFB spend, if you can get a fully loaded version you can't go wrong.
The RS, that is sort of left field, you are basically getting a detuned GTI that is heavier..
I have an MY11 R and it has just hit 3 years and I just bought a 2 year Factory extended warranty.. for me the choice was easy as the R seems to be by all counts a rock solid car.. haven't read any issues with them . Mine only has 39k on it so should be easy to pick up a low kay version.. you might even get one with a tune.. don't believe the hype about tuned Rs .. I test drove the MK7 and in stock form it is disappointing compared to a Tuned MKVI
