Everyone who orders an import car to order is in the same boat. When it comes down to it, VW are not in control of the docks, shipping, weather, customs, or compliance. Nor is any other car company. Hence the term "ETA" - it's unfortunately the best anyone can give.
What delivery date is specified on your 'contract to purchase'?
One thing i've noticed on my 'Tracking Report' is that it says Order Entry Dealer System/Order Entry NADIN, Order Registration & Buildability Check all on the 12th May which was about a month and a half before i placed my order, anyone know why that would be?
I ordered my Golf R around the end of June (23rd/24th?), and the dealer took an existing 'showroom stock' Golf R they already had entered in the system and modified the colour and options to match my spec. Perhaps if your dealer has done the same thing, the dates could be those of the original order spec that the dealer entered for floor stock?

Now you've said that i do remember the dealer mentioning that he had a few 'R's available that were already allocated to him so it must be one of those. Thanks simonm.
I saw one that matched this spec in a carpark in the CBD today... no sunroof, but had Recaros
Must say, I was a bit underwhelmed with its presence. That pic looks a lot meaner than it did in the carpark. Maybe it was the lighting? (or the hideous yellow standard NSW plate on it).
Saw it on the street as I was heading back to the carpark and determined it was a manual after hearing the crunching of gears and near stall when he did a hill start at the lights..
No, 3 door... I drove right past it when looking for a spot and didn't notice it, it was only when I was walking back to the lift when I actually realised it was an R, even had to do a double take.
What % value will the Golf R hold after both 3 and 5 years?
The R32 appeared to have incredible resale... But given the R is not a leap above the GTI, will it hold its own?
Each to their own. I reckon it is leaps AND bounds above the R32. Sat in an R32 today it was nice-ish. But the new GTI/R's smash it. Not just on the racecourse, I mean as in the build quality and the design and finish, IMO.
I have opted for 18" wheels for sake of somewhat protecting rims from Syd potholes and the sake that tyres maybe cheaper?
Do the 19in tyres cost a great deal more?
Man go the 19s! They are only $1300 more and to be honest you get a much nicer rim - and tyres probably worth double that premium alone. Apparently, to buy the tyres and rims afterwards would cost over $4000.00 If not more. And you get the black headlights which is what really made me get them now. But the headlight surround colour is definitely a personal thing.
19's are really a $2800 option because you need ACC. Actually ACC should be one of the first options ticked regardless of wheels.
Driving a non ACC car with 18's, on nice roads is fine. But on anything even remotely average, a long drive or daily commute would become tiring. The standard car really is quite a firm ride which is nice for spirited driving but day to day could get annoying. During my 2nd drive on the weekend, I found some very average inner city roads and an older part of the freeway to do some more testing. My passenger agreed that in that 45min period, it was overly firm for a daily. Maybe we're getting old but ACC gives you the best of both worlds and the cost isn't that big in the scheme of things.

(All IMO of course)
While not a terribly relevant comparison, haha, the S3 has a nicer ride on 18s than our Mk5 GTI is on 18s, or even on 17s to be honest. But the Mk5 GTI is miles ahead of my old MINI!

I didn't opt for ACC as i felt the ride quality even with 19's on the demo car i drove was fine for me, i admit it was not an overly long test drive but it was through some back roads and the ride did not seem overly harsh.
However having read a lot of peoples thoughts on ACC i do regret not choosing it now and if i had the opportunity again i would tick that option but unfortunately changing the spec now would cause a delay on receiving the car that i cannot afford.
I hope you are incorrect in saying you need ACC as hopefully by not having it fitted will not detract anything on how awesome this car is going to be..
