  • On last year's spreadsheet I figure yours to be about 12.09 to 12.46% depending on whether it had Euro plates or not.
But yeah - I agree that there have been some good discounts to be found if you know what to do.

I was also not eligible for corporate discount and managed to negotiate a discount I'm still wrapped with even after seeing Glennb's discount (I've never disclosed it, because I don't believe in doing so).

I was a bit hesitant about it too Corey, but we ended up with a full spreadsheet of discounted prices for the GTI at one point, so i don't see any real harm in it. I figure that if they were losing money on the deal, they wouldn't have offered it to me.

      • The people that have posted on here saying they have acheived 12% 13% etc on the Golf R have to remember they are spending upwards of $65K and are heavily optioned. I suppose the more you spend, the more options you add the bigger the discount?? Certain options have more "fat" then others and can be discounted more then other options etc....

Im only spending $53,990 ( Ex CTP, Rego etc) which isnt bad for s GOLF R with 19s, leather etc..... I suppose if I went in there and ticked every option I would of gotten 14% discount... Bit hard to get 14% if im only spending $53K

Certain options may have more fat and can be discounted more heavily, but then you're also being slugged with a 33% LCT plus stamp duty on top of the potentially discounted option cost, so they probably cancel out.

Not always. My car had enough options to go well beyond that ~$57k region where LCT kicks in and in Vic the stamp duty increases. A dealer can't discount those items so it took a bit to get the prices back down below where I didn't have to pay either.

            EDIT: beat me

Sounds good, it'd have to be MY11 like all of ours that are coming, didn't think the new BT was available with MY10. Guessing its a Manual as well?

Yes mate its a manual - I have a MK5 GTI DSG and im over it, would like to get back in a manual car again.

Just on a resale point of view, I would be dissapointed if it was plated a MY10, and delivered to me March 2011..... I suppose there is a chance it could be plated MY10, as it is only September

                  • Fair enough. I was only making assumptions on the MY build, not really sure how it works to be honest. But I was under the impression that anything build beyond July was an MY11 so wouldn't make a diff between now and March? I think Dermot or Phillip explained the build/compliance/rego dates and how it all worked with resale. Not sure which thread I read it in in though.

                    • All Golf's built from construction week 22 onwards are MY11's (based on info from the MY11 Bluetooth information provided to dealers). So to me, this looks like anything from June onwards....

                      As for how everything matters.
MY or Model Year is important to consumers due to it indicating possible inclusions of new specifications or features.
Compliance Date gives an idea of when it headed out of storage and was sent out to dealers. Only some states use this for valuing a car (Dermot says WA use it).

So let's say I put a deposit down today, won't my car be built within the next 3 months which would then make it built 2010 and delivered 2011?? Or am I wrong thinking that

Correct. It will be built in 2010, and therefore have a 2010 Build Date plate, it will be delivered in 2011, and therefore have a 2011 Compliance plate, and because it was built after construction week 22, it will be a MY11, and therefore have the model year 2011 specs and features.

You have to understand that "Build Date", "Compliance Date" and "Model Year" all mean different things and are used to refer to different things. Build and compliance dates match their calendar years (and months). Model years don't necessarily match the calendar years - they simply match when the manufacturer updates the specs.

It's entirely possibly to have a car (not a Golf) which is a MY08 but is built in 2010 and complianced in 2012 - it entirely depends on when the manufacturer decides to update the specs, and then when they decide to release it from the holding compound and send it through compliance to release to the dealer for sale.

So, in my case will my car be classified as a 2010, or 2011 model car come resale time?? Do you think due to delays that my car would be built in 2011 anyway, or no chance??

                              • On a site like Carsales, you have the opportunity to specify both the build date and the model year. Most dealers etc on this side of the country only care what the build date is, as do insurance companies etc.
It's not always the same though, over in WA we've been informed that they look at the compliance date (i.e. ~when the car was released from the holding compound in Australia and sent to the dealers to be sold originally).

I'd hope for everyone's sake, that there is no chance that a car ordered today would be built in 2011!
Having said that, it's starting to get close to the point where that may be the case (I'd say anything ordered in October will probably fall to Jan build date etc).
