We compromised on spec a little, but got pretty close and I know had we ordered and got exactly what we wanted by ordering that the extra 4-6 months in the previous car would have sucked because we'd lost confidence in it after its engine crapped itself, haha.
So how do you put a price on convenience? It's not necessarily all about being one the first as you seem to assume.
In regards to an iPad, which is a sub $1K item, who cares if someone wants to queue to get one. It's doesn't hurt anyone, so good luck to them. Personally I wouldn't do it, but I also wouldn't judge someone who did based on a simple purchasing decision.
